I know what it is? But would you call it art? Or is it just good modelling and good use of the program? And has this a place here? (in the proper gallery off course)

The question at the moment is not if certain art-works should be banned, that's a question that should not be asked, not now, not ever. The question is the system fair? Or is it being misused or abused?

In my opinion the Hot-20 (and the ranking-system as well) is not a objective system, it does not represent what is really going on in the Bryce-community. There are the top-dogs who will have their work in the hot-20 anyway, and that is good for them, because preceding that is years of hard work, training and learning and there are those who are cutting corners and use methods of gaining votes and comments that are questionable.

In my opinion people should be able to turn of voting for the work that they place in the gallery, just as you are able to turn off ranking and comments.

Wow, the picture is exellent! but a few army guys as scouts outside of the tank would look real cool.Anyway its good stuff, alhough I rarely ever vote or comment in the gallerys, as I am busy modeling or rendering my own stuff. So are those bryce trees, the foliage looks better than normal?

Is this art? Gee, why don't you ask the meaning of life while you're at it. Its art if you think it is. Does it speak to you? Does it invoke a reaction, an emotion? Does it captivate you, revolt you? If the answer is yes to these questions, then Its art. If the answer is no, then, well question answered. IMHO, this is art. Not my kind of art, but art none-the-less. The artist chose the content, the lighting and the composition. These choices were not random, but deliberate. This may be an editorial depiction of an actual event, but it is not the actual event itself, and therefore is a representation of one's idea and an expression of their imgination. Although I wouldn't hang this on my wall, I kinda like it. Then again, I was in the armoured corps for ten years and have a soft spot for tanks.

I would call it "Illustration", a well-respected art form (respected by me at least. Some of my favorite artists are illustrators--Frank Frazetta for one). It could easily be used to illustrate part of a story (and judging by the caption on it, it is designed to do just that).

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

If this had been rendered by hand, with pen and ink, oils or acryllic, would it not be art? Instead it was rendered by hand using a computer program, coming from his mind and soul. This is what makes it art. What style of artwork you choose to admire and hang on your wall is subjective. Afterall, some people still have Elvis painted on black velvet hanging in their living rooms. tjohn, love Frazetta!

It's art as long as the creator considers themself an artist.

Nice job. There are many magazines dedicated to wartime history thay would probably love to use this.

Any GOOD 3D creation is art, just different categories. I think that picture is great.

Yes it is art!.And yes,I agree that the Hot20 isn't a perfect system but it allows members to anonymously vote(sounds good and democratic to me!)for whichever image they like. Keep on voting and enjoy the Hot20!

Its good to see that people still look at the picture itself, what are the intentions behind it? What does the maker of it mean with it? That's good.

First, again i did not make the picture myself.

It is a postworked screenshot from the invasion 44-mod for the game Operation Flashpoint (2000), errm.. yes this the work of a game-engine, not some fancy high-end 3d-package or even a low-end like Bryce. The postwork is actually a hint of what is to be expected from the next generation graphics-cards and drivers. Real-time depth of field. (BTW: the Panther is most likely made by Marfy, a very well known artist in the OFP-community)

That's why i asked. Is it art?

The last days we have seen a lot of comments and rants about what is art when it comes to Bryce (but it happens in other fora to), but i think that it is not works that should be questioned, nor the technique that is being used or the programs that are being used and how much postwork is involved.

What is to be questioned is the meaning behind the work? And in that the colorfull group is failing i think, i boils down to one style, one idea. There is no exploration, no learning. There is quite a lot of potential to grow if they want it, but they are not grabbing it.

A bit sad actually when look at it.

But what is sad? The ones that don't make it into the Hot-20 despite hard work, skill and inspiration or those who do make it with an average of a 100 views, 30 comments and 35 rankings for each picture and post like clockwork (1 picture a day)

Well.....I'd say that no-one said anything different because they thought you might have made the image. To me it's craft, not art. There is a difference - craft is the exercise of a skill, art has a different motivation altogether, it's about expressing yourself or exploring ideas that interest you, and although practical skills play a part, it's only a part. Just my opinion.

its art if "you" say it is... censorship is -unamerican- last time i checked, if people like it or not is another question... and dont confuse fine art w/ commercial art... they ARE both art forms (or forms of art?!?) w/ different "purposes"... but yes, your image is "art" in my opinion, and would serve a purpose to many... a video game box cover or a graphic for a newpaper story... .0002 cents :D
