Select the clothing item, then conform it to the character. Figure menu --> Conform To

What you're asking about are called "conforming" clothes or "conformables" for short. They are built as figures just like the Poser people. If you're in Poser 5 you can find some for the standard figures by going to the Figures library and looking the the Clothing - Conforming folder. To get them to work you first load the Poser figure you want to use. Go the the library and select the conformable to use. Please note that conformables are figure specific. Load the conformable by clicking once on the icon then click the double check mark at the bottom of the library panel. Clicking the single check mark or double-clicking on the library icon will result in the conformable being substituted for the figure loaded earlier. Now with both the figure and the conformable loaded select the conformable and go to Figure > Conform To in the top menu. You'll get a little pop-up window that lets you select the figure. You should now be able to move the figure and have the conformable move with it. More likely then not, you'll find that some areas of the Poser figure will pop through the conformable at different settings. This is normal and is handled by either using magnets to morph the clothing into shape or (my favorite) correcting the problems in post work. Given though that you're going for animations you'll probably find magnets a better solution. Try it out and if you get stuck check back.
