I have poser 4 and Bryce 5, but I would like to bring Poser characters over to brcye and add background. Do I need a plugin for this? If not how do I import a character?

there is a plugin for daz bryce, and i think that you can get it from the daz3d.com site (for free? not sure...). Anyway, you don't really need it, what you need is to export your poser person as OBJ, after which you can import them into Bryce (File: Import). Then it gets a little tricky. Ideally once your OBJ is done importing, it should ask you for the textures. The tricky part is that if your figure is clothed, you will have to ungroup the object. The clothes are separate, everything except the head is separate, the head is separate, and I think the eyes are separate. Eyelashes also need blend transparency settings. There are some tuts out online on this issue, I strongly advise you look them up. Drac (perennial poser hater) ((WHY DO I KNOW ALL THIS??? WHY????))

Export your Poser model as an .obj file to a floder that you're storing the bryce file in. I create seperate folders for each piece of work I do, Like a library.Open Bryce, select File / Import Object. Bryce will prompt you for the texture Map files.
You can use your windows Explorer to do a search or manually find them. (Directory structure as follows):
C:/ProgramFiles/MetaCreations/Poser4/Runtime/Textures
Then depending on the model there are many more Sub folders after Textures. That's why it's easier to do a search.
Once the Map/Textures are loaded, Go to Rochrs website at this link, go to: Tutorials/Poser to Bryce. This will give you better details.
Shout if you get stuck.

Or handle your textures the easy way and get Grouper from freestuff.

Ok, first you export your object as a wavefront.obj into a new folder. Then come out of Poser and open Grouper. There are five tabs along the top. Click on the first one "Files". You browse to where you placed the .obj, click and thats the source file. The destination file field is best left alone as it will give you the same directory as the source. Now click on "Groups". Along the right side are more tabs. Click on scan. This will get all the materials used in your Obj. Then under map click save. Now go to the fourth tab, "Convert and Repair". In the first window browse to where you keep your Poser textures and click "Include". This can take some time but you only have to do it once Now click "Package" and when that
s done,click "Convert"
What all this does is get a list of materials used and then makes a folder with the addresses of those materials.
In practice you import the .Obj and when it says a material cannot be found, it should open up the same folder window in which you saved the obj. Here you will also find a folder of the maps.
It sounds complicated but really it`s the work of seconds once you get used to it.
Hope this makes sense and is of help.

d carry on with it. :o)

I know our Drac is a poserphobic, but in all he time I have been exporting poser figs to bryce I have never ungrouped them, never used grouper or any other app, and have never had any problems....now where am I going wrong.

Actually,..........(someone may have said this already,..I'm just to old and lazy to thoroughly read all posts), I just export the figure from Poser to the folder where the figure textures are stored and viola', Bryce will atomatically apply the textures on import. Of course you have to adjust them by hand anyhow,......but still,......and I leave the figures grouped and use Control+right click"(I think)to pick sperate parts of the mod, then apply the texes. Generally, if the textures and exported model are in the same folder, you shouldn't have a problem. That's my story and I'm sticking to it ! This works for .obj files,.....I don't know about any other formats.
