Well i figure since Mac Osx is based on freeBSD that we should expect to see a version coming out for Linux. i hvae been using Vue since version 3 and have really enjoyed every release. Unfortunately other OSes just aren't as stable, feature rich, and resource efficient. I would like to see how many of you agree.. maybe we can get them to compile it for Gentoo or Slackware. if ya feel the same.. hit me up teknix@gotscrewed.net

I've just recently set up my pc to dual boot win2k/suse 9.1 personal, and although I'm a complete linux newb I'm loving it! The only thing stopping me from using it more is that none of my favorite apps will run on it :( So I or one am adding my vote for a Linux port of Vue :) Alla

I've managed to get DAZ|Studio running under Crossover Office. Vue 4 and Poser 4 will run okay under Win4Lin, but performance is damned slow due to the 128MB memory limitation (plus, you have to install and run a custom kernel patch to get Win4Lin to run.) I finally gave in and bought a dual G5. However, with the KVM switch, I can bump back and forth between the Mac and my SuSE 9.1 box all day long. The Linux box I use for all the Internet, all of my post-working (GIMP) and most of my gaming desires. The Mac has a couple of games and all of my CG Art stuff. One thing to consider - if you're going to "vote" for a Linux port, do it in e-on software's direction... write 'em a letter or e-mail explaining why. /P *I know they have GIMP for the Mac, but I don't feel like buying X11 for $99, then buying the OSX version of GIMP for $40 more; may as well just re-install P-shop 7 on the Mac instead... it's easier for me to just shovel the images over to the Linux box and postwork it there, where I already have GIMP set up to my tastes.

It would be better to have a Linux port built much like the gaming companies do... with static libraries and a decent shell script to install it, as opposed to .rpm, .deb, emerge, or what-have-you. It also makes things a bit more universal, so the code monkeys only have to maintain one version, and not fifty. Maya does much the same here. Yup, it eats more disk space, but it beats having to see if they have one that supports n version of xyz distro. /P

I asked for this on the What would you like to see in the Vue 5 version thread years ago already. It's a must. It got my vote a long time ago. I blow people away all the time by plukin in a knoppix cd and be up and on the web in about 1 min with most the apps that come with linux at your finger tips. Oh and 64 desktops. ! Got to love it, the wave of the future.
