Subject: Vue 4 to Vue 4 Pro?

I have the original Vue 4 and want to upgrade. I received an email yesterday from e-on informing of a new Vue 5 version with separate modules. From the email it seems to tell me that many of these module features are available in Vue 4 Pro.

I have Mover 4 and the 4.22 update that brings it up to version 5, and I hardly ever use it so I'm not real interested in this module.

I do like the ability of Vue 5 updating scenes when Poser files are updated. I also really want it so I can see a real-time preview on the screen instead of the small window which is hard to see. Are these two features availabale in Vue 4 Pro?

E-on doesn't have much on their site in regards to the difference between Vue 5 and Vue 4 Pro. Is there a big difference between the two? If I get Vue 4 Pro, am I really missing anything by not getting Vue 5? They also don't tell you want you are getting or not getting with the stand-alone version of Vue 5. Does the stand-alone version still let you import static Poser files?

I use Vue 4 Pro all the time, so maybe I can answer a few of your questions... Vue 4 Pro will update changes to Poser models. I will save a scene in Vue Pro, then go to Poser, tweak the pose, resave in Poser, and then when I reopen the scene in Pro, it asks if you want to update the model. Very very handy! There isn't a "real time preview" on the scene in Vue Pro, just the preview window (small window above the world browser). Vue 5 (regular, the version out now) mainly differs from Vue 4 Pro in the lighting modules (it has global illumination). But it doesn't have the lighting features (as far as I can recall) that Pro has; selective lighting of objects, shadow mapping. You can import Poser models into Vue 5. I'm personally waiting to see what comes out in Vue 5 Infinite, the newly renamed version of Vue 5 Pro which should be out early next year.

depends on what youre using vue for. if youre into animations v4pro and v5 infinite would be prefered over vue5 esprit, and of course v5 infinite is the best one. but if youre mainly doing stills or looking for render quality i prefer v5 esprit over v4pro mainly due to the ibl and hdri which works wonders for small and/or indoor renders and obviously v5 infinite will once again be the best option featuring all the good stuff from v5 and v4pro + some brand new things, altho with the biggest price tag. but if youve survived using v4 esprit so far im pretty sure youll be very happy with v5 esprit, then again, upgrading from v4 to v4pro and then to v5 infinite seems to be the most affordable upgrade path if youre looking to get infinite in the end.

Vue 5 is Vue 4 with the new lighting engine that supports image based lighting, HDRI, GI, and radiosity. VuePro 4 has the plant editor (which will be available to Vue 5 as the Botanica module), an unlimited layer world browser instead of the fixed 8 layer that Vue 4 and 5 have (and the DeepAccess module -probably- will change that; that is one feature of the VuePro4 world browser that =wasn't= mentioned as a DeepAccess feature, so it may stay in the ProInfinite product line as a feature), support for shadow maps and selected illumination control over objects in the scene (which the LightTune module will give Vue 5). VuePro also has Python scripting, wind effects for the trees and vegetation, still image network rendering capability, so you can create a monster of an image and break it into 4 sections to render across a network. And I'm with you, Djeser. I want my Infinite (as we have a hint from Steve Bell that they finally have implemented .avi animation on an alpha plane. Oh, the video screens and rain effects... What would be perfect is if they managed a translator that would properly convert P5 shaders to Vue understandable ones, and had some limited motion adjustment on imported Poser models to permit fine tuning of an animation....)!

Yes....I am looking forward to Vue Infinite.

If you can afford it, go for the upgrade path to VI. As good as Vue 5 looks to be -- I am certain that Vue Infinite will be in a different class.

One would certainly hope so, with the price differential.
