Hi all, just learning bryce and need some pointers. I have put this image together just to see what bryce is like. Firstly i don't like the clouding around the car the way it is and would like some idea on how to make it look more like wispy fog with out actually using the fog in bryce(until i learn it more) Secondly i'm trying to have more focus on the car than the hills in the background, now i did a bit of reading in the help and from what i can work out i am ment to use the Depth Of Field, not knowing how to do the settings on that i took a lucky punt with it. Now on to the lighting, i used the sun in this one but for my next car image i would like to use some other form of lighting so any pointers on this(not to technical) would be great.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Well, let's see... the clouding, if you don't want to use the fog height and weight in the sky lab you'll have to fiddle with the transparency of the fog "object" you're using there. Select the object click on the "M" to go to the material lab and fool with the transparency setting. Nice shot on the depth of field. Basically you select the object you want to focus on, then choose depth of field in the render options and set the focal length to the current object. Lighting you have a lot of options. If you specifically do not want to use the sun then you can go into the sky lab and turn the sun off. The you create the type of light you want to use and position it in your scene. DO a search on "light dome" in the forum and you should come up with lots of info on how to create a lighting environment. Very generic advice but it sounded like you were looking for generic rather than in depth specific.

FOG: Depending on the scene you're working on, (especially if the subject & immediate surroundings have lots of reflection) Sometimes a Sphere with cloud material works too, you load it and scale the Y axis down to almost nothing in the Material editor. a bit longer render time. Experiment, but remember to save a few Bryce files with slightly different names. If you get a crashed file, you'll be glad you did. You can always trash the WIPs after. DOF: I did a forum search on "dof setting", here is one thread and there are a few other good ones. http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1225477 LIGHTING: What type of lighting are you trying to acheive? In this image: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=758100&Start=19&Artist=ICM&ByArtist=Yes SUN: I used just the sun, however I did use a booleaned sphere with an HDRI map on it.(those jpegs are easy to find with a search) I made the ambience setting of that mat 100%, and made it slightly transparent.(set to your liking for the scene) The other aspect was a paint material that AgentSmith posted. Here's the link to that thread. http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1784500 Let us know how you make out. (great car, one of my favs) ICM

Bryster i notice the wheels look funny, got sharp edges on them. I tried to smooth them out but they ended up looking worse. Its ok i'll not be using that car in the image i want to do. I'll be using one that will have round wheels on it :p Thanks guys for your advice, i'll put them all to use. CD
