Any of you use Elefont? I was using this software to create .dxf files and importing them for some time. For some odd reason - now when I import files from Elefont in this format - Bryce collapses. There is an error message which is quite long - and mentions .dll files. I would include the message here - however, the error message seems to disappear from my system - the file folder where it is supposedly stored is always empty when I attempt to locate the message. I have deleted and re-loaded Elefont without success, also - I do NOT wish to delete and re-load Bryce (all of my models, textures, etc.) Any helpful hints or direction toward tutorial assistance would be appreciated. I had the same prob with Elefont, and it happened all of a sudden like your situation. I finally started using Wings3D for making text(works great) and you can export the text in Wings in .obj, or 3ds files as well as several others.

Try reloading Elefont. Sounds like it is creating corrupted files. Or, try importing a dxf file from another source. If that crashes Bryce, then you know it's Bryce. If it works, then you know it's Elefont.

Thanks for the ideas. I heard of a program called crossroads - that converts .dxf into .obj files. I cannot locate the link or site to utilize it though. I did try to reload Elefont - without success. Funny thing - I import some pretty heavy Poser and other models into Bryce - and the program seems to hold it's own during this process. For your consideration - I thank you.

kept happening to me..I landed up unintalling and reinstalling bryce..it worked..have no idea why...

Well, you can always try another approach. Find Tiffer or Tiff2PGM somewhere here in the free stuff. With that, you can create a tiff file in a 2D image editor, converting it to pgm and importing into Bryce. You'll get much smoother mesh that way.

hmm..guess he had to change the baby pictures..you can do 3d models of text in any font in Wings 3d..and in .obj format as well..here's the link..in case you haven't heard of us..;) wings local 509..;)

3dcafe always has a selection of dxf files at the end of it's freestuff models. Pick a category and you can download hundreds to try out. If they work in Bryce then it's elefont.

I found a copy of Crossroads on some backup disks and installed it. I read the license agreement and it allows the program to be redistributed as long as it's not charged for. So ... I've placed it my site, available for download. It will be there as long as my host doesn't scream about bandwidth.
