I was looking through the free stuff and came across Little_Dragon's bushy tail. So, I thought I'd ask about it. I downloaded it and it's beautiful, but I'd like to know how the fur does that? Are there two figures merged in to one and that's how the fur can be bushy and trans-mapped and look wonderful. I'd just love to know the trick for doing this, because it would be nice to be able to have the same effect on the poser cat, because then I could make his fur bush out like he's scared without having to do a bunch of post work in photoshop. Thanks.

The bushy tails are a bunch of transmapped cones, nested together like stacked Dixie cups. Each cone uses the same fuzzy texture and transmap, but each is rotated slightly along its axis so the pattern doesn't seem to repeat. This technique is very efficient in terms of system resources (only one small texture and transmap are needed for the entire thing), but it also prevents fur patterns like spots or lengthwise stripes from being easily achieved. I can make the tails into conformers for the cats, if you wish, but it's easier just to parent the bushy tails to the cats' hips and toggle off the visibility on their original tails.

It is a great effect. I was asking, because I was working with the default cat that comes with poser and I'd love to be able to make a bushy effect going down his back. (Like when they get in to fights or get scared and they get all poofy.) But for nesting. (Is that like parenting or do you have to edit the cr2 manually?) I ask, because I'm not familiar with nesting techniques. So, then after you get all the cones on the cat would you export the obj and make a new figure out of it?) It would be really cool if you could write a tutorial on how you did the bushy tail, because that has to be one of the best furry objects I've seen!! :) I've tried to make fur on the poser cat using poser 5's hair room, but it really kills the computer. Slows it down to a crawl when I render and it doesn't look as good as your tail. :) Great work on all that!!

I attempted to explain the process more "graphically" in this thread.

Thanks for the link. I see how you do that now! :) Thanks so much... But how would you get the cylinders to stay on the cat and stay spaced the same distance when it's posed? Would you have to make a totally new OBJ for the figure? (Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions personally!! I've admired your furry model work for a while now, and love Furrette 2.0!) She's so cute!! I also did a search and found your work on wolfgang (Any thoughts on releasing him when he's finished?). (That's what got me thinking that the fur on the poser cat could be done, but it would probably take a long time to get it right.) But then again... I love working on this and I have some time off work for the holiday. So, I've been playing with Poser this weekend.

But how would you get the cylinders to stay on the cat and stay spaced the same distanced when it's posed? I'd parent them to the tail segments, with the bend option enabled. Or turn the mesh into a conforming figure for the cat. Lemurtek's Wolfgang is available now in Free Stuff. I have a Mimic-compatible update for the figure, also. Or were you asking about his full-body fursuit?

I was asking about his full body fursuit, but the whole figure is avaliable in freestuff? -Runs off to search- Thanks!!

I was reading this thread and your cone method is the same thing that Les did for the Bigfoot conforming fur figure. Great minds must think alike :) --Rebekah--

They seem to be much more cooperative when they know you could incinerate them with a single sneeze ....
