is it possible to make an object not get rendered in a scene but still be visible? I have an object in a scene that looks better unrendered.

I don't think it's possible for the rendering engine to skip an object that is visible. However, you can set the surface properties so that the rendering engine will do very little. No texture, a plain color, no highlights etc.

Thanks I tried that but it does'nt work, thanks for the help though :)

It might help to show the object rendered and unrendered so people may be able to see what can be done.

export two images, one rendered in jpg, tif, or whatever, and the second, go to hierarchy and put all the other scene elements invisible, except the one you want and export this, unrendered, as a .png. It will give you an image to layer over the first.

Hi camelot77,

You might try this ...

  1. Hide everything except the unrendered object.

  2. "Paste onto Background."

  3. Hide the unrendered object.

  4. Render (everything else) over Background image.

Or, do it in the reverse order if required for the unrendered object to be in the foreground.

Note - You don't want to move the camera between shots, obviously. ;=]

How-some-ever ... That raises a question ... (in my tiny li'l brain, anyway) What are you doing that makes an object look better UN-rendered? HmmmmmMMMMM??? ;=]

Thanks for all the support hear, its nice to hear from you Geep :) the paste background thing is a pretty good idea but it would be a neat feature to see on Poser6 to have the option of not rendering certain objects in a scene, would be good for creating scenes especially, happy new year everyone.

"What are you doing that makes an object look better UN-rendered?" That was why I asked to see the rendered and unrendered versions of the scene. It could be the problem with rounded polygons when you have to do the spit vertices thing with uvmapper to make them look right. They sometimes look worse when rendered.

It does'nt seem to make a difference since it does'nt seem presently possible within poser.
