Greetings to all.

I have just ordered Poser 5 and waiting for delivery.
I have two main questions:
Can I edit objects within the Poser 5 environment or is this only for positioning pre-existing formed objects? Ex. creation of objects, extrusions, point edits, face edits, adding my own textures created in PSP8, photo backgrounds, etc.
Is V3 a stand alone product or an add on for Poser 5 and is it essential to the Poser 5 in order to create the scenes which I have viewed on this site? Also is it necessary to have and install V3 in order to use the additional add ons that claim they are for V3?
Please help. This is all a bit overwhelming.

You can't edit the meshes in Poser, but you can apply textures to your liking. The editing of the figures is constrained to the morphs built into them. You can build very crude things with the Poser primitives (sphere, cube, cylinder etc), but not do any modelling as such. V3 is a stand-alone figure sold by DAZ (www.daz3d.com). She is not essential for Poser (you will get a bunch of figures with the package) but she is the most advanced and versatile female model around. A lot of free and commercial add-on stuff is made for her and, yes, you need to get her before you can use any of these add-ons.

Does "edit the meshes" include altering the appearance of the model such as adding extra weight, enlarging or decreasing the size of body and facial features, adding natural aging features such as sagging and softening, etc.?

You can alter the size or appearance of characters using morphs. Vicky 3 is a product sold by DAZ3D. You buy the base figure, then the head and body morph packs if you want to alter her appearance.

The confusing thing is that some "Version 3" figures such as Vicky 3, Michael 3, Stephanie 3, and David come with separate morph packages. Version 2 figures such as Vicky 2, Michael 2, and Stephanie come with morphs built into the characters. The best way to sort this out is to look for a section detailing any required items for each figure.

Do you need Vicky 3, or any other figure that does not come with Poser? You can actually do lots of stuff without buying any extra figures. Many of us, however, find the "commercial characters" to be of better quality, or more appealing. The Poser 5 figures don't come with many morphs, and you won't find many clothes for them, other than what comes with Poser 5. You might want to spend some time browsing the Renderosity and DAZ3D stores. Then scan through some of the forum messages. There's a wealth of information there.

Since you haven't installed P5 yet may I suggest going to Poserpros and reading this thread. Free membership required. It should make your experience with P5 a lot more enjoyable.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.
