Subject: Tip: DON'T hit Ctrl-A !!!

When trying to save ( Ctrl-S) I slipped and hit Ctrl-A. Here's the result. Luckily I had properly saved the scene not too long before this mess. Turns out that Ctrl-A takes all Props, whether attached to a figure or not, and sets them to default (100% scales, 0 on all else). It doesn't affect figures. I suppose this could be useful in some situations.... ? Mostly it's dangerous.

Looks like it does the same zeroing action to cameras and lights as well.

Yes, it's listed on the card as restore All, and alt-ctrl-a wll memorize All. But it ought to handle figures as well, if it does a full restore. Hmm...

I did that once... absent-mindedly... CNTRL+AHHHHSKREWWWWIT.... I wish there was an undo in case of accidents.......

I've hit it a few times in error, thinking it would bring up the Aux cam. (well ctrl-M gives you the main, Ctrl-T the top and so on) IMO it's one of the times where I REALLY REALLY REALLY wished there was a foolbox, you know those "Are you sure you want to f'ck up the last 3 hours of work?" ones... I'm ready to cry every time. And no, I don't save frequently enough.

I've hit Ctrl+A in the material room thinking it would select all like in ever other windows program out there. Gotta be fast with the undo, or I'll be long with the cursing.

Poser has a lot of fubar moments! lol I never knew about this one though and luckily I've never come across it personally. Thanks for warning us!

I realized after posting and going to bed, that Ctrl-A must be the shortcut for Restore All. I've used Restore All "intelligently" quite often, but always directly from the menu, never by shortcut. Still, it seems like such a drastic action shouldn't have such an easy-to-hit shortcut. Or maybe it should be disabled until you've actually hit Memorize for something, so that you presumably know where you're going.

Don't you just love the way it's right next to those useful combinations ctrl-S and ctrl-Z? I've never wanted to 'restore all' in my entire Poser-using existence. When you think of all those things that DON'T have a hotkey combination, like the back camera... Oops, I feel a rant coming on. Time to take my medicine and lie down for a while... I wonder if there's some Windows utility that will intercept hotkeys for you, and maybe allow you to define your own for any application?

could be worse; only complaint about Mozilla I have is that save image (ctrl+v), is right next to 'block all images from this site (ctrl+b)..grrrr..;)

And if you want to hide/ show the ground by hitting Ctrl-G, be careful not to hit Ctrl-H- that is "Hide Figure", which causes the currently selected figure to disappear. Yes, you can bring it back using the Heirarchy Editor, but it's a pain. And who the ***@&#;@^ put Ctrl-C (Copy) right next to Ctrl-V (Paste)? You select something, hit "paste" (without looking), but you've actually hit "copy" and lost whatever you had in memory! --John

JHoagland - somewhere under the character(?) menu of the title bar is an "unhide all" (may be called reveal all) which will bring the character back in a hurry. My main SNAFU with Poser is forgetting to make sure I have the figure and not the clothes selected before selecting a pose. UGH! It's even worse when you had to do a bunch of dial tweaking to get the clothes to fit right because they disappear when you parent again. Maybe P6 will have more functions that can be undone and more levels (history) we can go back.

I wonder if there's some Windows utility that will intercept hotkeys for you, and maybe allow you to define your own for any application? I use a utility called Macro Express which does this. In about 2 minutes I created a macro which intercepts Ctrl-A and replaces it with Ctrl-M (and so harmlessly sets the camera back to the main camera). And Macro Express can limit the "Scope" of the hotkey macro so that it only affects Posers and not other progs. Macro Express is at http://www.wintools.com/

Thanks Qualien, well spotted. I found something called AutoHotKey which looks handy, but I haven't tried it yet. Definitely off to check out Macro Express... -->
