I'm new to Bryce but have been using Rhino for a little while. I imported a robot I had created in Rhino and had some difficulties in grouping objects. A couple of related questions. Can I view and select an imported models (.obj) individual components in a list before ungrouping them? When I ungroup the model parts what is the best way of selecting numerous small parts all to be textured the same (ie. the joint bolts or finger and toe elements). For this picture I found the easiest way was to gradually cut the elements away and paste them into a new file until I had all the 'like' parts together then group them before bringing in the next group? One last question - when assigning a different colour to each group of elements am I limited to the 25 that appear in the family box, and if not how do I go about increasing the group number. I don't know about Rhino, but it has been my experience importing objects into Bryce that I can Control-Shift-Click on the object and select individual pieces, without ungrouping the original. Perhaps you can use this to create your own groups. Hope this helps.

Keppel, also if you hold down the ctrl key and hold down the mouse over your model you get a pull down list of every object under the mouse at that moment and you can select from that list. Very handy - I used Bryce almost a year before knowing that and it has made things a lot easier. Then as fredramsey says if you add the Shift key to the mix you can select multiple pieces. The shift key works as a toggle between adding to your current selection or subtracting. Dave

Actually theres a much easier way to do this, select the small arrow and goto select mesh it will list each and every mesh. He's a tutorial on doing just that.
