I think that Randym77 has it correct. By giving away the Base characters, they will generate far more sales of morph and texture packs, plus open the market for more modelers making clothes and the like since they will not have to PAY for Michael in order to attempt to make money making clothes for Michael. It is in keeping with their approach to Daz Studio. Shogakusha

Not only that, but DAZ recently re-did the bases so that expression morphs are included. So you really don't have to buy any morph packs to use these characters. (And if anyone's upset because they just bought it...remember, DAZ has a 30-day money-back guarantee. You can get a refund.)

I will point out that DAZ just gave everyone who puchased V3 a $30.00 voucher just a couple weeks ago. I'm expecting that it was in anticipation of this. - i.e. a refund for all those who had purcased V3 for regular price previously. As such, I'd not be surprised to see a similar voucher showing up for all prior purchasers of M3.

Yowsah. I'd have been happy with the voucher they gave me last week for owning V3, considering all the use I've gotten out of M3 and V3.

But kudos to DAZ - I think they've finally learned. They're ahead of the curve on this one, for once. I was wondering how long it would be before early buyers started to gripe. Looks like DAZ was, too. At last! ;-)

Maybe I'll keep V3NewGen after all. Since it looks like I'll have an awful lot of vouchers to spend this month...

That's not what I meant. (And I'm not a chap!) I wasn't talking about the sales model. I was talking about remembering their old customers as well as the new. Time and again, we've seen it. They offer something free to new customers, and the old customers get upset because they paid for it. Much kvetching ensues. DAZ tries to ignore it, until the racket is so deafening it can't be ignored. Then they give the old customers something - a voucher, a free PC item, whatever.

I know, not everyone agrees that older customers have any right to gripe. But the fact is, they do gripe. And they are DAZ's most loyal customers. DAZ always ends up giving them something once the complaining gets loud enough. So why not give them something upfront, and avoid the pitchforks and torches routine altogether?

The problem was that DAZ never thought their promotions through. Well, this time, they did. That's what they deserve kudos for.

Not only that - it's not Friday. :-) Message edited on: 01/05/2005 13:49

Read the announcement. DAZ is giving previous owners voucher rebates. They are doing this up-front. There is no grounds for gripes here. Bobbie_Boucher posted Wed, 05 January 2005 at 2:37 PM

This announcement shows that DAZ really listens to their customers, and is showing some real progress in taking care of some issues, in addition to giving away Vicky 3 & Mike 3. 1.)Recently some threads dealt with problems caused when customers lost their purchases. DAZ is talking about making things automated so you can get your downloads reset, etc. This will also likely address some of my concerns about DAZ's previously apparent problems with Customer Service. 2.) DAZ is giving voucher rebates for previous owners of Vicky 3 & Mike 3. They're doing this up-front. That answers the concerns many previous owners often have when DAZ announces specials, reduced prices or freebies. Any gripes I've had in the past were legitimate, even if others didn't agree. In this case, I can find no reason to gripe. DAZ is showing a real commitment to the 3D World, and is taking steps to make that entry easier for many who have a hard time finding money to buy all these figures. And I wouldn't be surprised if this is just what some good Poser merchants/artists need to be able to start producing some great stuff for Vicky 3 & Mike 3.

Khai posted Wed, 05 January 2005 at 2:40 PM

randym77 posted Wed, 05 January 2005 at 2:43 PM Online Now!

Exactly! I, too, thought that reset thing was in response the recent spate of people complaining about being charged for a reset, and from dial-up users who were having trouble downloading their purchases within 72 hours. Their solution is fantastic, IMO. I suspect the biggest hassle in doing resets is the poor DAZ employee who has to track down what was ordered when. Allowing us to reset our purchases ourselves makes everyone happy.

randym77 posted Wed, 05 January 2005 at 2:47 PM Online Now!

ROFL! I think I know who ordered the Rent-a-Mob. It was the people who like to complain about the complainers. No one's complaining, so they have nothing to do! ;-)

Bobbie_Boucher posted Wed, 05 January 2005 at 2:48 PM

I think some of these ideas have been "in-the-making" for awhile, and it may take some time to get it all together. But the very announcement is enough to make some people happy. And DAZ made a nice move by mentioning vouchers for previous owners up-front. That avoids potential gripes, but also seems in step with the philosophy they're portraying here. Add this to the Free DAZ|Studio, and it starts to make more sense.

Oh, and I can't help wonder what joys the DAZ Affiliate program will offer?! Now, I'm starting to reconsider my attitude toward DAZ|Studio. But can I handle yet another new program when I'm scheming how to afford Shade 7 LE?! Wow.

Lots of software given away to create a market for other software that runs on that platform. V3/M3, its just software, and everything created for them is just running on a platform. Cool move.
