Subject: Suggestions for scanning pages from antique books?

ktaylor50 ( ) posted Fri, 29 December 2000 at 2:35 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 11:53 PM

I frequently need to scan the pages of old books. The pages are generally a light tan color. When I scan them, the tan become exaggerated. I've tried balancing the color to bring them to a level of color that is more like the original page, but I've not been successful in doing so. The color overloads easily, turning into a more iridescent yellowish brown. I've tried adjusting the yellow and decreasing the saturation. Any suggestions for an effective way to accomplish this? I'm using a Mac with Photoshop 5.5 and an Epson Expression 636 scanner with SilverFast scanning software.

Are you sure that the tan is exaggerated? I have 5.5 also and I don't have the color ajustment set correctly. This generally makes the colors in the images I view in Photoshop darker and more saturated. Try opening it in a different image viewer and see if it looks better.

Try Brightness/Contrast settings, up a little, until you get a good image, don't worry about over-colorization. Now go back to Hue/Saturation and move saturation down a little bit, and you should have it. Voodoo
