A new blog exclusively devoted to discussing the fractal art scene has been established. Here is the description:
"The Fractal Burka is the first independent blog to reflect on the current state of fractal art. The writers hope to explore everything from the infinite to the insipid -- to exclaim on approaches and aesthetics -- to examine personalities and parameters -- to exhume the state of the state of the scene. Fractal theory and practise will be fair game -- as will artists and web sites. Why the "fractal burka?" To often, in order to fit in with the crowd, you have to hide your creativity behind gauze to belong to a circle -- inner or outer. And once you hide behind the veil, you're gone. Only the fundamentalist members of the Mandelbrot Taliban remain to be seen."

Do you know where it can be accessed? And who the Mandelbrot Taliban are? And who not?

http://fractalburka.blogspot.com About the Mandelbrot Taliban - I guess you'll have to ask the bloggers. I don't know.

How pretentious can you get? Who are you, Fractal Burka? Why do you not reveal yourself? And, like Andreas asks: Who are the fractal Taliban? and a happy New Year to all of you:-) Eveline

Pretentious? Didn't strike me that way at all. I thought it was kind of fun....grin
fractalchemist posted Tue, 11 January 2005 at 10:55 AM
Taliban are (were?) not funny at all, and every woman ever sentenced to a burka will testify to that;-) Enjoy your evening, Eveline
PaganPoet posted Tue, 11 January 2005 at 12:42 PM
Sorry, I thought we were discussing an art blog, not politics and religious extremists. My bad.
fractalchemist posted Tue, 11 January 2005 at 1:36 PM
If you call yourself "fractal burka", and the ones said opposing you "the taliban", you are obviously talking politics... But, like all things fractal this is all in the eye of the beholder, is it not? Sweet dreams, Eveline
abmlober posted Tue, 11 January 2005 at 1:53 PM
Just leave out politics, please.
The blog is about those who don't like post-work. Written by someone who likes postwork. Since I do not know any people except a very few that lead a war against postwork, it is just another useless site IMVOPO. I do not use anything except UF. But only because I want to repeat/save my working steps. Because I want to render my images large just as they are...

I can't speak for the owner of the blog, Eveline. I don't know whether they intended to combine politics and art or not. But you are correct, it is "all in the eye of the beholder." It's afternoon here, so I'll wish you a good day. :)

Thank you, and that will be that, as far as I am concerned;-)) Bye,bye, Eveline

It looks very new. I read their 3 or 4 articles. My impression is that it seems to have started out as a reaction to other people's opinions in the fractal art community (whatever that is) particularly the old arguements about post-processing and generally what is and isn't "true" fractal art. The latest post is mainly a review of two fractal art sites and I found it very interesting and "fresh." "They" could have chosen a better name in my opinion. However, mystery and controversy are appealling qualities to have a new site "shrouded" in (no pun intended). Looks promising. We can all get a free blog hosted there! I registered just so I could leave a comment and the host, Blogger, gave me my own blog at the same time! Talk is getting alot cheaper.

It must have tickled your ego, otherwise you would not have mentioned it here.....;-) Have a nice evening, Eveline

In the meantime I tend to have a look at the blog from time to time. It's not just another post-process crusade page. It's going to be interesting :-)

Maybe, I sure hope so...Do you ( or anyone else)already know who is behind the burka? Eveline

Unless they grow a pair (highly unlikely), I doubt they will own up. The site was 'interesting' until the latest attack on Renderosity members. If you haven't got the balls to put your name to anything you say then you should just STFU. The Fractal Burka is a waste of my time and proof that only cowards hide behind anonymity... Matt.

Matt, who are you?

I have no problems with that blog. It's just the same old stuff that gets hashed and rehashed ad nauseum in this forum every now and then. It's one of those "...give me the strength to accept the things I cannot change" things. It's just how humans act in groups - always. I think the interplay around here is pretty friendly and have enjoyed it. Met some cool people and learned some great stuff. Actually got to interact with some folks that I'd idolized for years and found them to be really cool people. Some of its threads are constructive....I just wish they'd spelled the darned word correctly - it's "Burkha". Better git and see if my truck will start so's I can get to work - dead battery this AM.

Matthew Harvie Born in Portsmouth (home of the Royal Navy) on the south coast of England, and lived within spitting distance of Portsmouth ever since... Mainly due to fact that I could never resist a buff bloke in a uniform. Matt.
