Hi,

i am trying to export a morphed character and i get as far as checking the save with polygon groups and it appears to save it. I can delete the character from the scene but most of the options in the menu are greyed out.....i have to x to get out. then there is no file...i found a post about it and the solution was to reinstall poser.......can i reinstall on a different computer? and what about the things i saved like i thought i had made my own characters, i had just hit the + button in a new character libary....does that make a new character? or if i mess with the cr2 will it mess up the original character? I was under the impression that i need to export the new character as obj...then import it and go to the hierarchy editor and press create new Figure....it that correct?

Any input appreciated.

TimmyLynn

What do you have selected when you try to export? What version do you have installed? Mac or PC? ;=?

I have this problem, too. If the problem is grayed out boxes, try right-clicking on the time in the bottom right corner of your screen. The Windows clock. A menu will come up. Choose Adjust date and time, then click OK (without making any actual changes). The grayed-out boxes won't be grayed-out anymore. Yes, it's weird, but it works!

You have One lisence for Poser 5. You can install it on any computer that suits you but you must remove it from the other. You should be able to exit Poser by using the File exit command. If that is greyed out are you sure that the file export is complete. Exporting the geometry for a modified figure may take several minutes. When you export keep an eye on the drive light and wait for it to stop or open windows explorer and check that the file has been written out. You should not lose the contents of the libraries by doing a new install but it might be a good idea to rename the original runtime folder, reinstall poser and then putting the stuff you have created back. If you are changing thing in the cr2 files it is always a good idea to work on a copy. That way you always have the original if you mess it up.

I have body selected.......it is PC lasted patch v 5.0.4.325 wasn't that the last patch? poser5 adn randym77 are you able to export or does it just grey out.....this may be why the fix for the mihai hair is not working for me in the firefly renderer....i followed every step to the T and it still doesn't work....maybe that's because it isn't exporting the hair after i group it....this is weird.....Dr Geep please tell me I don't have to reinstall......i was doing your robox tut and ran into the export problem again......i have modified my interface which i don't want to have to do again.......also i removed that content paradise room......any suggestions anyone.....Help

ok let me see if i can be a little more detailed.......i am try to export a morphed figure i have been working on as an obj so i can then import it and create a new figure.....isn't that the procedure Dr Geep?....then i can alter the cr2 of that new figure without worrying about messing up the original characters cr2.......i have a cr2 of my new character but it shows the original characters name in the text editor???? anyway so i load my morphed figure into poser 5 pose room.....i hit file export wavefront obj..........on the parameter dail the figure is selected .....then the hiearchy window opens i uncheck universe which unchecks everything and check figure which checks all body parts and hit ok....then window comes up and asked for name of obj....then i type in name and hit save......then 6 box window pops open on which i choose include existing polygons and polygon groups only and hit ok ....then nothing happens there is no noise from my disk drive like nothing is happening and everthing is greyed out except the help options and the animation options...i tried the system clock thing and that does nothing for me....again when i hit the red x in the upper right hand corner which appears to be the only way i can exit poser5 at this point it asked if i want to save the current pzz...which i answer no and it closed the program down....

I've had the problem of not being able to save OBJs from time to time. In my case, it looks like it's saving properly, but the OBJ file is not created. I'm not really sure what causes it. It may be a memory thing, because closing down Poser, then opening it again sometimes fixes it. Never had all of Poser grayed out, though. You may want to try re-installing. It's not that big a deal. I've done it several times. (Poser does tend to go corrupt now and then.) Rre-installing didn't mess up my runtimes or anything. Just install it on top the existing installation. If you're really paranoid, you can back up your runtimes to CD or DVD first. Probably a good idea to do that anyway.

Hi TIMMYLYNN, I am sorry but I have not been able to duplicate the problem that you describe. It appears that you are doing everything properly so the only thing I can suggest (gulp) is to re-install Poser. It is not that difficult ... as randym77 says. Sorry I can't be of more help. cheers, (anyway) ;=[ dr geep ;=] P.S. Try turning file compression OFF. Just a thought. ;=]
