As a Child I stared out the Sun through a Telescope....I have never recovered. Muuuuuuuuuah!

thankx misha! pity i don't have telescope!filters look cheap. $25 i might get one. HC oh i thought it bcuz u droopped on head as child!! u have double whammy!

It is true that I did bang My wee Noggin....when I I fell from my Prambulator, as I was being Abducted by Aliens. A good Filter for looking at the Sun ....is the Skin of a fresh Onion.....if You wish to let more light in....just peel off another Layer of Onion Skin...Viola!

I have a UV filter I salvaged from a cheap halogen lamp that got destroyed some how. I don't know what the filter does exactly, but I remember taping the round glass disk to the front of my camera on a few occasions. I didn't notice anything different or amazing, so I haven't tried it again. I assume it offers some sort of UV specific range of protection ...it says UV-Fileter 001 on it, so it must be cool because it is similar to my screenname. -coolj001 :-)

Please excuse me for being super cautious, but we have such a wide range of folks coming to this Forum, and since we are archived, these threads stick around forever. The only safe ways to look at the sun are described in links such as I've included here. This includes trying to look at the sun through a camera. I know all of you already understand this. But the fact of so many people being blinded by exactly this sort of thing is evidence that some of the population does not. Now, if we can just keep people from freezing their tongue to the lamp posts the world will be a safer place.

As a side note to this, people with digital cameras may want to exercise caution when pointing the camera directly at the sun...... Aside from going blind, you may cause damage to the CCD of your camera...... I've read conflicting articles on this... ok, not ok, ok not ok... here's an article from the it's not ok side. Popsicles should be outlawed, ever had the inside of your lip get stuck to one?... ouch! Hurts like hell for days afterwards......I am, therefore I create.......

I have read several conflicting articles too, personally I would air on the side of caution, after all the CCD/CMOS is 90% of the cameras cost! Master card needed for a repair.

thanks so much for article Michelle and i appreciate your input!!! LP, thanks i agree...err on side of caution. i think i will buy one of these solar filters because i want so much to photograph sun. i will need to do plenty of research. i wanna make SURE i will not damage my cam!!!!
