OK, a member of one of my gaming groups sent this link. It is vastly amusing, especially to those of us who remember the original series and how innovative and shocking it was. For its time. Since several people here model space ships, clothing, and other movie-related props, I figured that knowing the sources for the alcoholic beverages would be interesting. Even for those who don't, this is a fun read. From the notes under Romulan Ale: "While the quality of their liquor is beyond reproach, the uptight Romulans make for poor party guests. Theyre so un-hip even their glassware is square." :) http://www.moderndrunkardmagazine.com/issues/05_02/5_02_space%20winos.html

Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor not a bartender!

Considering that most of the sickbay implements were really salt and pepper shakers, I'd have expected something equally wierd about where they got the liquor bottles. Carolly

Oh dear God! It is NOT a good idea to try and read this with a mouthful of Cheerio's! ROFL!

another trivia fact- the Kanar that they used in DS9 was actually syrup..the actor who played the Cardassian lush revealed that in an interview.

I never got to see the end of DS9. I heard it was interesting, though. Did the Breen remind anyone else of Leia's Boussh disguise in Return of The Jedi?

"It's... er... green!"

Now that I've been reminded of it... Carolly, is there any recent news of Leslie's "Banned From Argo"? The last I heard, Pocket was still sitting on it. I wanna find out just what the "odd green potion" was! again...

Oh, god! Does that bring up memories of crowded filks, back in the days when everybody could sing along. With enthusiasm even if not much skill. Lots of enthusiam. "You Bash the Balrog" "Banned From Argo" and "Never Set the Cat on Fire" for sheer raw humor. "Cranes Over Hiroshima" for passion. I brought my boss, who'd gone to school in Japan, to a filk once. Walked over to Joey's side of the circle and dropped 3 origami cranes (red and white and gold) on his guitar. When he finished, the entire room was in tears. Gorgeous harmonies. My boss had been to that memorial. "Ship of Stone" and "Hope Eyrie" and "Fire in the Sky" to remind of us of achievements made and dreams still to be worked for. (Don Simpson is a member here, and so is Paul MacDonald... if you remember Paul and Cathy (who'd lead "Lord of the Dance"), they are doing well, but the kids have grown!!!) You know, I'd like to know what that odd green potion was, too. ;^) Carolly hmmm... I think I'm going to pull off the Return of the King, and slip some Bill Sutton on the stereo. His song about the druid in the dying tree fits my mood.

"Our captain's tastes were simple, but his methods were complex: We found him with five partners, each of a different world and sex." Ah, yes, shore leave. ;^)

Oh my goodness, filking... And the British filkcon starts on Friday. I still remember the look on Leslie's face when the whole convention launched into "Ilkley Moor". And then, a few years later, the live brass section walking in for "Temper of Revenge".

hauksdottir posted Mon, 31 January 2005 at 4:47 PM

I might add... for those who know filk: Heather Rose Jones is my landlady (and good friend) and is still trying to live down "Black Widows in the Privy". She just got her Phd in linguistics and sent off the manuscript for a baby name book (which will be published under a pseudonym), but once a filker, always a filker. ;)

Khai posted Mon, 31 January 2005 at 4:50 PM

Khai's Cthulhu Filk to the tune of "I'm looking over a four leaf clover" I'm looking over a shoggoths shoulder that I've overloooooooaoaaaaarrrggghghhhhh!!!!!!! urp the only one I've ever done ;)

I shall forbear from strange puns and obscure lyrics, but there are few places where one can get away with telling a shaggy dog story which depends on knowing the works of C J Cheryh and the Bronte Sisters. Well, not so much get away with as be allowed a decent head start.

Wasn't CJ actually there listening when you first perpetrated the Ride? Or am I thinking of someone else's "interesting" reaction...?
