Hi all...
Is it possible to import an Infini-D (.id4 file) into bryce 5? Or maybe another way to import it into something and then save it as a usable Bryce file? I had Infini-D a long time ago but the disk got trashed and no more Infini-D. The new company that took over Infini seems to have let it die... Any help would be appreciated..
I have a file that I would love to work with again
thanks for your time...
Jeff

Sorry, Bryce 4 or 5 does not recognize that format. If you can find a way to convert it to dxf then you might be able to get it into Bryce.

Hey thats good work! Am I understanding you right, you were able to convert the .id4 files in Carerra into dxf?

I was able to convert it to a 3ds file in Carrara. It is someone elses work from like 1998. I just was lucky enough to have saved it. I'm planning on a scene in poser with it.. It is a free file from the guy
the Carrara version I have will only save it and not export it. Maybe I need some plug-ins because export is not highlighted in the menu. Maybe if I were to create from scratch it would be.
.car
.3ds
.b3d
.dxf
.mts
.obj
.wrl
are the save as file types..

I was able to convert it to a 3ds file in Carrara. Bryce will import 3ds files. Make sure the file is not copyright protected before using it publicly. Isn't Cararra the people that took over Infini-D? Don't know about Cararra and how they handle imports and exports but it's also possible that you might have a limited edition, a public demo perhaps.

I want to be able to use the original textures with the file and thats one of the problems I'm having at this time. It saves the objects but doesn't want to hold the textures. I'll have to figure out a way to do it. The file comes with a readme('97) from author stating you can freely use it.. so it's cool there. I have an actual version 1.0 with disk and content cd. I got it for a xmas gift one year.

Hmmmmm...I personally don't see anything too exotic as far as textures go in that image so chances are you can retexture the whole thing yourself in no time at all. And you'll probably have fun doing it.

I did notice one thing. The author created it using a Mac. So the textures are virtually useless to me so I am going about it fresh... I opened the file up in Bryce and it is really incredible the amount of mesh in this thing.... later

When things look too complicated in Bryce, sometimes its best to isolate each object in solo mode. This will hide all unselected objects in the scene leaving you to work on the selected object or objects. The solo button is located at the bottom. Its the tiny green circle between the video buttons when in select mode. Screen mode can be alternated between Time/Select using the, what else but the Time/Select toggle, a tiny little wiremesh like icon at the very bottom-right side of the interface.
To further make things easier in a crowded screen, it is also best to color code your objects into family groups and colors. This is accessible by first selecting the objects you want to include in a group and choosing a distinctive color and a distinctive name for that group. This way, all your bar stools will one color in wiremesh mode and your pool balls will be a different color and so on for your walls, lights, furnisheretc.

Infini D was a great program there are features in 3.5 and 4 that you rarely see. It had particles and lense flares and some of the best textureing anywhere. (once you know how it works. I asked abou ttextuing at the time at a Alia Demo telling him how I texture and the Alias guy said no we can't do that. The modeler is crap though. That is why it was never a pro tool.
