i hadnt noticed but the poser5 (first generation)copy i have ceases to work after seven days (waaaahhh boo hoo).now i have the money to buy the original but it seems a shame to shell out 115.00 gbp when i have an exact copy in front of me.can anyone offer any solution or alternative to paying out all that money for what i already have additional the guy who i got the first generation copy off was reluctant to give me his reg code.i assumed it would work without it and it has up to now. sorry to bother you all but you may be able to really help me out here.thanks for your efforts in advance

There's a zero tolerance policy for "warez" here. Your friend should not have given you a copy. It's okay if he gave you or sold you the original, but obviously he didn't, or he'd have included the code.

Buy a legal copy. Though you might want to wait a few weeks, if you can. Poser 6 is coming out soon. Even if you don't want Poser 6, Poser 5 will probably become much cheaper then.

its ok everyone ime off to curious labs to purchase poser5.i was sort of hoping someone might have a spare copy to sell or they knew of somewhere where i could get it cheaper but no worries. in reply to randym77 i also have tolerances..a first generation copy of a product is perfectly legal (i was told that by an officer in person)it is neither a warez nor illegal thankyou.just thought ide set you straight on that.

randym77 posted Thu, 10 February 2005 at 6:42 AM

You can make a copy of a program you own, as a backup, for your own use. You can't make copies, first generation or otherwise, to give to your friends. Or to keep while you give away or sell the original.

hauksdottir posted Thu, 10 February 2005 at 7:26 AM

You don't own the program. Your friend doesn't own the program, either. All he has is a license to use it on one machine at a time. CuriousLabs owns the program and the COPYRIGHT to it. They alone have the right to make and distribute copies. Your copy is not legal and whoever told you that is full of hot air and untruths. So let us set you straight about that! The fact that your "friend" wouldn't give you his registration number ought to have been a clue that it wasn't legal. This Forum has a zero tolerance policy on the trading and soliciting of warez. It says so on the agreement you signed when you became a member. Carolly

now firstly i have no desire to be kicked off the site but niether am i gonna sit quietly by while insults are thrown over the table now lets try this again shall we.i have an ORIGINAL poser5 at my disposal. now is what i have legal or illegal and lets be straight about that.now due to the fact that i now have an original any furthur insults directed towards me and ill see about having you removed from the site....ok guys.

randym77 posted Thu, 10 February 2005 at 7:49 AM

Bamber, you're not going to get Carolly removed from the site. She's been here forever. Heck, she used to be a mod here. And you're not making any friends by making such silly threats.

But if you just bought a copy of Poser 5, pax. You did the right thing. I can't speak for the mods, but I'm willing to believe that you just didn't know any better.

You'll probably find that Poser 5 runs better, too, unless your friend got his copy very recently. Service Release 4 fixed a lot of problems.

*now is what i have legal or illegal* Illegal. You need to buy a copy. As stated previously, this site has a zero tolerance policy for warez... which is what you have requested when you ask for an "alternative" to purchasing a legal copy of the program. As you have said that you now understand this and you're going to buy a copy, I will not be taking any further action at this point. Karen Poser Moderator

"...it seems a shame to shell out 115.00 gbp when i have an exact copy..." makes your second post less than credible.

...a petty thief better get used to criticism. Heck, I hope you get used to an officer showing up at your door...

You managed to purchase and download it in an hour? Right. You'll have a far easier time once you actually have a legal copy of both CDs with a manual and shortcut card. If your esteemed first-generation-copy fizzled out, it probably had other flaws, too. THEN you'll be entitled to our help and the support of the community. It's really very simple. If you feel you have a legal copy of the program and the right to use it, then just contact Curious Labs for technical assistance. Maybe you will have better luck convincing them it is legal than you have the readers here. Good luck.

Also if you don't want to spend the money at this stage then you could download Daz|Studio, which is free. I'm now going to lock this thread before it gets out of hand.

bamber1000 - you were discussing a warezed copy of Poser 5, and trying to find a way around buying it - your first post states that clearly. You have been reminded about the TOS here, and been warned that such behaviour will not be tolerated. If you wish to take this up with the site admin, please contact them. Carroly doesn't have to explain who she is to you, but for the record, she has been part of the Poser forum staff and knows the score here far better than you. As suggested above - if you truly believe you have a legitimate copy, go talk to Curious Labs about how to enable it for you. Are you going to lock this down karen or shall I? kromekat Renderosity Moderator (EDIT) - I see you did it ;)
