Subject: supplementary Runtime folder(s) in P4/PP

My runtime folder is getting pretty heavy and as a consequence Poser is wheezing along. I know P4/PP doesn't support subfolders :-( so, could I copy the existing runtime folder to say, My Documents as a backup resource, clean up the Poser runtime and just install core elements that I'll use again and again? I wondered if I could then use elements of the copy Runtime folder just as and when I needed them - would Poser run them?

The folder that is moved from poser probably wont work because poser will expect the textures and geometry files to be in the usual place and they arent.

I thought as much but just wondered - will have to just clank around for now ;-)

One possibility is to keep a copy of your current runtime folder within Poser, you just rename it to something else. And then if you want to use it, just change the name back again (first rename the other runtime folder). I hope you understand what I try to say =)

thanx, I do understand - poser's just taking ages to load anything at the moment. Thought there'd be a getaround to bypass some stuff I don't use much but don't want to do away with completely

I suppose if one of the runtimes are called runtime2 it won't be loaded by Poser, just the one called runtime?

You dont have to copy your entire Runtime - as the others have pointed out, it will remove all your textures and geometries too. But its only the libraries which are clogging up your workspace. You can copy library folders freely as you suggest, and put them back at will. I do this myself to keep Poser 4 relatively tidy. You need to maintain the basic folder structure, thats all. You can also investigate a utility called Pbooost which does this for you "on the fly".

thanx every1 - just looking for a way to "bypass" the stuff I hardly touch at all - such as the Poser 4/PP models etc - seems silly to have them just sitting there and slowing things down. Will just copy them to a "spare" runtime folder and store them for any future use. I had thought of this in the first place but wasn't sure if it was feasible.

Just a thought - if I remove items from the Poser libraries, will this remove Geometries and Textures too, or will I have to do this manually?

If you rename the default Runtime fold to something else and create a new Runtime folder, are there any default Poser files that are necessary for Poser to run that need to be copied to the new Runtime folder?

barrowlass posted Sun, 13 February 2005 at 11:22 AM

I've actually removed the unneeded library entries, and removed geometries and textures. (I made copy of Runtime before doing this - it's in My Documents), and Poser does seem to be running better just now ;-)
