Attached Link: Before and After.... Duh!

Hey! I was looking for the RD3D plugin requested below and found this plug-in for motion blur (the author calls it "pseud[o]" blur) that kicks ass over the built-in motion blur in RDS 5.5. (the lack of realistic motion blur is the main reason I've considered leaving RDS behind....) Check it out. The author has some other plug-ins for RDS, too. You have to make it through the interesting use of English, but it's well worth it. http://member.nifty.ne.jp/escargot/eng_index.html

Is this a real motion blur or is it a post process? I hate Carrara's motion blur b/c it puts it on after the image is rendered. When it does it this way, its not very accurate. I spent the last two weeks deciding if I wanted to 'upgrade' to RDS or TrueSpace. I was totally impressed with some of the stuff that RDS has. Lucky for me the new Carrara replacement will be announced tomorrow so now I dont have too choose. Hopefully the development community will get behind this new version and we will start seeing Carrara plug-inns.

OK, so it slows down rendering a lot, but it's great. You can apply the motion blur to single frame renderings as well as animations. (The above post is a frame from an AVI, but I also tested it with just one frame; it works as long as there's motion before and after the frame you're rendering in the time-line.) The ship, by the way, is a ram-scoop design I'm working on for a project.... Critique always appreciated.

Brent - It's a post filter, but it seems to re-render the frame before and the frame after to calculate the blur. It looks pretty good to my eyes. Let's hope that Carrara's new owners take the program where it needs to go; more professional and less buggy!

Great ship, Chip ! Original design and a lot of detail ! About Pseud blur ... A few months ago, i wrote to the author to ask him if he intended to convert it to Carrara . He said he was busy . But then he left a message on E-groups, asking where he could get the SDK . Unfortunately, no SDK ... I hope he will make other plug-ins when Carrara 2 will be relased ... litst

Chip cool, simple ship design. I like the idea of the ramscoop ship, but never modeled one myself. Only critique is from a camera angle: I'd like to see the ship more from the front, to get the scoop idea across (of course, if it's in a movie, never mind). Perhaps also a less homogenous field effect, to give the impression of hydrogen particles impacting the scoop field. my $.02. tim
