Hi,
A good suggestion - to place a new thread with a summary of the most pressing topics for the Poser 6 Special Edition Pre-Order.
Poser serial numbers are not case-sensitive; you can capitalize the letters or not as you choose.
Curious Labs serial numbers do not use the letter "O"-anything resembling an "O" is in fact a zero (0).
When entering a serial number, be sure to include the dashes (-) as these are required.
Be sure that no extra spaces are included, either leading or trailing, when you enter your serial number.
Be very careful not to transpose digits; please read your serial number over carefully and check it before submitting. Additionally, be careful to click the submission button only once, as multiple clicks may cause the system to think your serial number has already been used (and is thus invalid- see below.)
Finally, if you have successfully validated your serial number and then had to cancel or revise your transaction, your serial number will remain marked as used, and thus ineligible for further upgrades, for a period of ten minutes or until you successfully complete the current transaction (at which time it is permanently marked as used.) Should you need to repeat a transaction, please allow enough time for the system to release your serial number.
...... our Global store, run by Digital River seems to have been rejecting nearly all those in the UK and Europe attempting to pre-order their P5->P6 upgrade. I received many IMs from people graciously willing to take the time and answer the needed question for DR to trouble shoot. And as a result, they have narrowed in on the problem, some form of call out function in regards to the serial number. This should be completely fixed by noon PST tomorrow, if its not ALREADY. We sincerely apologize for the frustration of this I know many people outside of the US feel less than supported and this coincidence may have increased that impression.
.. This time with the release of Poser 6, we have lowered the price of what people in the UK or Europe have previously been required to pay. Though not 100% equal to the exact currency conversion the additional costs are in relation to export fees. But, you will find that you can purchase in the US, for $129. You can purchase in Europe for 119 and in the UK region ₤82 for the Poser 6 Special Edition upgrade from Poser 5.
.. We pulled all of the user details we had on people first purchasing Poser 5, what we have titled the Early Adopters. The period of time covers people who purchased before any Service Release which makes the product Poser 5 Windows English; and the people eligible who purchased from either pre-order period, or from September 6, 2002 through October 31, 2002. We are finding however that not all user details were passed along to Curious Labs from our former parent company ; Egisys before closing their doors. This is one of the biggest reasons many throughout the UK and Europe are not getting emails from Curious Labs. (Our sincere apologies). For the immediate need those who purchased in the time frame just mentioned and can offer proof of purchase, please IM me with your contact details including your current email address. But, I highly recommend to anyone hoping to get information emailed from Curious Labs, please go to our site and enter in your current user details. We will continue to support our customers by making patronage gift offers in the future and will be looking towards a larger product offering from having now a well established parent company e frontier who has many different products that should make their way to the US and Europe/UK. Please make sure you check the box approving us to email you though just entering in your information is not enough to get the emails since we must make sure you wish to receive info from us.
. With the increase of SPAM blockers circulating now, many do not realize that they did receive the CL email, that is was either deleted as SPAM, or automatically sorted into a SPAM folder. The latest that seems to have blocked CL email is: http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=64.62.178.130 which we are contacting to request removal of our name. Norton had blocked our email at one point for example and some of the email service providers are also culprits. Please be sure to email our Support team with your email address and any server details so that we can make sure to rectify this. But also check in your areas your email software puts SPAM!
.. The best answer I can offer at this point is Spring 2005. If you have a credit card that expires in February, Id suggest waiting. If it expires at the end of March, thats more difficult to offer a direct answer. Likely not a problem, but if it ends up a problem, well work it out with you.
.. To answer the easiest first whats the deal with Poser 5 Special Edition. This is a celebration release a brand new year for many of us at Curious Labs with a very healthy management and business philosophy under our new parent company e frontier. Poser 6 is NOT just a feature-fix release. Though Id love to just offer all of the details now, I cant but I believe most if now all, will find this a powerful release of Poser. The Winter Queen Figure Pack is a special gift and not necessarily the only content provided. Last, the reason for adding in Shade 7 designer LE. Shade technology has been around in Japan for 20 years now. One of the strongest and most followed 3D products within Japan. But limitedly known here in the US and within Europe and the UK. Shade offers PoserFusion, a fantastic plug-in integrating Poser into Shade. designer offers an easier learning curve which provides the best of both worlds. A taste of what you can create with Poser integration into Shade without a longer learning curve. Pricing for Poser 6 when the Special Edition offer has expired will not be less, releasing at $249, with upgrade prices remaining the same.
.. What is the Winter Queen Pack? Are there new figures, what other features, etc.. these details will keep coming out between now and the release of Poser 6 in Spring 2005!
I hope that this is a decent summary for most. My apologies for those topics I didnt cover.
With kind regards,
Katherine

hauksdottir posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 10:01 PM
zippyozzy, We REALLY need the CuriousLabs rep in THIS forum to answer questions about how to enter the serial number (that bit about leading or trailing spaces is important to know, because copy&paste OFTEN includes an extra space if you aren't careful), and when it is likely to ship, and even (gasp) what the new features will do. This is more than a fix-it... there is new stuff to learn. If we don't burn them at the stake again, maybe some of the other CL technical people will feel like entering and sitting down for a chat with us. If you don't want to know anything about the new lighting or rendering or toon shader features, new Winter Queen pack, open GL, or whatever else is new (6 secrets now), that is your problem. If they release a new secret a week, there should be plenty of questions, and quite a few of us WANT the answers. From the source. Not speculators. The source. Carolly the Curious

Is it at all possible to get a complete list of new P6 features at one time? This would aid immensely in making puchase decision. There are potential purcharers that are waiting for this info to decide whether to 1) buy now or wait, 2) upgrade, 3) make a first time purchase (or go with Artist). The current scheme of releasing info in pieces and parts is extremely frustrating.

Katherine, I'm in the US, have an "Early Adopter" promo, and a valid P5 serial number in front of me (from the Disc folder - which matches my stored serial number). I checked the entered SN three times and it matches exactly (0s not Os, dashes, XF at front). I'm just about to retry. If this doesn't work a second time, should I be sending an IM from here at Renderosity? Thanks, Robert Templeton

I've got just one question: I already own Shade 7, so pre-ordering is only going to get me a second copy of a program I already have (unless there's some major update of Shade 7), which lessens the reasons for me to pre-order. Are there any plans for those people who have Shade 7, want to pre-order, but don't want another (essentially useless) copy of it?

All I need is an address to send money order to. They do not sell Poser in the stores here. Only way to get it is from the net. So in all, I do not use Credit cards. It's getting increasingly difficult to order. My Poser 5 serial is now accepted but when I try to calculate my postage costs and choose the country I'm in (Greece) I get this message: "The shipping location you selected in the shopping basket does not match the shipping address you entered in your order. Please return to the shopping basket and select your location and appropriate shipping method to continue with your order. (Error Number: 30072013 - 0)" The thing is I hadn't entered any address yet, this was just after I hit Buy on the Poser 6 global store page, so what does that message mean??? I even ignored it and tried to give them my CC information and address in the hopes that they would realize I'm calculating the cost for the same country I have entered but I get this message again. Hope my CC wasn't charged! Why is it so difficult? I've shopped on countless online stores and never have I had such frustration! Even shopping at egisys was a breeze. So, yes zippyozzy, I could use all the help I can get even if means some of the people on this forum just ignore those threads beginning with "Poser 6" and "unable to order". End of rant

Well, I'm hoping Poser 6 IS a feature-fix release, and a thorough revamp too. I don't go with the view expressed in a previous thread about keeping things the same so that everything is familiar. That's like saying, "Oh, I do hope Ford won't bring out a car that starts when you turn the ignition key. I'm used to going round the front and cranking the thing with the starting handle for five minutes. I'm USED to that. I don't want it to change to something new. I just want the starting handle to be a different colour."

P6 wont work out of the box with vue(sadly enough) but CL and e.on are working on a improved sdk and vue will get a future update as soon as possible so poser(6) will work even better then any previous poser version has ever done with vue, but not just straight out of the box. i might be wrong and CL might post something different :) but this is the information were getting from e.on. All we vue users are hoping right now is that the improved sdk and patch wont take month to get released.

EU EXPORT fees are not relevant to IMPORTING anything into the EU from outside. And actually, it is possible to ship to the UK without charging VAT IIRC, leaving the recipient liable for tax (and responsible for declaring it). At least, this appears to be possible based on the purchases I have made in exactly that way. Cheers, Cliff

Hi, First, I sincerely apologize for those left unanswered until now. Different time zones, more than 23 Poser boards amongst the other urgent details of the moment will require me to cover the most urgent issues right now. Ill try to answer as much as possible throughout the weeks ahead, but do ask to please not misinterpret any less than desired response right now as our lack of care to your inquiries. Those who are now receiving errors outside of the serial number issue I am collecting data and sending off to our DR-store team. Anyone who tried to pre-order and had difficulty can rest easily in knowing that we will make sure to get you the Poser 6 Special Edition product. Mail order and items of this sort may I please ask that you visit our FAQs in addition to posting? I may not get to you in time, and there are a considerable amount of helpful details available there. ORDER FAQs http://www.curiouslabs.com/article/articleview/1220/1/529?sbss=529 + Poser 6 Pre-Order FAQs http://www.curiouslabs.com/article/articleview/1342/1/586?sbss=586 i.e., What payment methods do you accept? We accept Visa, MasterCard/Euro Card, Discover, American Express, Diner's Club, JCB, and check cards or ATM cards, so long as they are connected with one of the major credit card companies listed above. You can safely enter your entire credit card number via our secure server, which encrypts all submitted information. We also accept Checks, Money Orders and Wire Transfers. If you choose to pay by Check, Money Order or Wire Transfer select the appropriate payment method on the payment page, and directions will be provided to you after you have fully submitted your order. E on/Vue plug-in collaboration will be one of the priorities. But that is not to say that the Maya, Cinema 4D (just now released), 3D Studio Max and other necessary plug-in support will be left on the side lines. But that take some time to accomplish all. Hopefully its a help to know that we see this as important and necessary. There will not be a repeat of the Macintosh release falling so far behind the PC. The plan is a simultaneous platform release, but I do know, however am not intimately involved in the engineering details that the Macintosh release has historically been a bit tougher to finalize so as a personal thought to add, if for a needed reason the Macintosh is not released on the same day as the PC, it will not be far behind at all. But again, we seem to be on track for the dual platform release schedule. Those disappointed in not getting more feature, date or release, content details right now, I do again apologize. I will my best to keep you informed, but also to make sure you are getting the right details. Last, Id like to let people know Ive received their IMs. 168 this morning which Im heading to now. I forgot to add details on Poser 6 Special Edition for those who have issue with Shade 7 designer LE (may already have it or may not need it) in regards to the price, you are not paying more for the Winter Queen Figure Pack, or Shade 7 designer LE. They are perks of ordering while this Special Edition is available. I believe those who received the email on the Pre-Order promotion also received the following paragraph: Poser 6 Special Edition will be available by preorder for $239 US / 219 Euro / 150 Pounds which will increase after the release of Poser 6. Curious Labs is now offering Poser 6 at closer to market currency value outside of the US, making this product an even more affordable power-solution worldwide. When the Poser 6 Special Edition runs out, Poser 6 will be available for $249 / 229 / ₤157. We will offer an upgrade from designer to standard for those who prefer this. Otherwise, if you get the P6SE and dont want or need Shade 7 designer LE, you havent lost any value for your money spent. and you may just end up knowing someone you could gift designer to. For upgrade pricing, the $129 US / 119 Euro / 82 Pounds price will remain the same those purchasing upgrades during the Poser 6 Special Edition promotion, will receive the Poser 6 Special Edition. Those who choose to wait until after the Special Edition runs out, will receive the same pricing options for upgrades. Kind regards, Katherine

Successfully completed my pre-order for Poser 6 SE.
I do have a few questions:
Shade LE download link is already available. Should I download Shade now and, if so, will that make the payment go now (a partially filled order) OR will Shade be updated for Poser 6, in which case I ought to wait for the Poser 6 release?
Is this free version of Shade LE upgradeable to the Shade Standard version for the usual LE to Standard upgrade price?
I have not seen any mention of compatibility with Poser 5. Will everything in Poser 5 work directly in 6 (sorry if I missed this information anywhere). Will my runtimes and PZ3 scenes be available/usable in Poser 6?
I have actually upgraded my Poser 5. When I install Poser 6, will I still be able to run Poser 5 as an alternative to 6 (should the need arise)?
Thanks in advance of a reply. I guess I am set to find out all the answers in due course due to already having flashed the cash. Oh well!

Digital River is a new service provider for us and there was just no way to know what problems might be in place before the pre-order launch. I also have phone numbers for Digital Rivers Customer Service (finally). For Europe, the UK and Rest of World, they have one number located in the UK.
Local calls from the UK: 0870.44.32188
Calls to the UK center out of country: 011.44.870.44.32188
For the US, it's either 1(800)656-5426 or, (952)646-5000.
Please use their CS for order problems only. And those I have been in direct contact with via IM, please rest assure that I will continue to work the issue through with DR you have already communicated to me so you will not have to start from ground zero with a Digital River customer rep.
For those who we're taking care of for the $89 special upgrade, we'll continue to work with you directly on this to the point you can place your order properly with the coupon. And last, if you're not getting emails from us, please keep using the process of using our direct "contact Customer Service" form with the title "NOT RECEIVING CURIOUS LABS EMAIL".
Hopefully you will all have a good weekend ahead.

pdxjims posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 8:27 AM
Katherine, Will there be a refund policy for people who preorder P6 and are dissatisfied with the product on release? Has CL finished coding? Has CL finished beta testing for those modules/features that have been announced? Will there be any new content in the way of new figures? These questions are a great concern to me since I preordered P5, and went through the whole P5 fiasco. There was no refunds with P5. It was released with known problems, some of which were never fixed. Promised content was never provided. We've seen a couple of screen shots of the product interface, and a few minor details on new features, but no examples of renders. There's also been no render time comparisons or even if the new Winter Queen package box image is using new content. You're offering a very good deal for P6 right now, but as someone who still feels cheated on P5, there's too little information for me to make a purchase comfortably. It may wind up being the best product since toast with jam, but nothing I've seen so far has suggested that it's worth the risk of another P5 experience. There's a good chance I'm missing out on a great deal, but I went hungry to purchase P5 on pre-release, and I won't miss any meals for P6 unless more information is provided.
RHaseltine posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 9:14 AM

pdxjims posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 10:32 AM
Katherine has been very helpful with order information and problems, and extremely polite. Curious Labs is now owned by a new parent company and deserves a honest look at their product when they finally release details and test results. I too, am excited about P6. From the little we've heard, it looks to be a great improvement over P5. P5 is a great improvement over P4 - now. However, until we see more, and know the return policy, I think it's foolish to pre-order a product that we don't know is finished coding or testing from the same people who sold us P5. I'd be a lot less leary if there was no Pre-Release sale. CL did the last one to show that they had guarenteed income in order to help their financial situation. I keep remembering the excitement we all felt with the P5 pre-release, and the months dragging into years of problems, public beta tests, and unfulfilled commitements. I remember the price cut less than a month after the initial release. The public airing of CL's finances and corportate shake up. I'm getting sense of deja vue that really worries me. Most of my income is Poser based. I'm afraid one more P5 debacle could kill the product completely. If the product is this close to shipping, then CL should be releasing a lot more informaton. A few screen shots, a couple of postworked images, and few descriptions of improvements aren't enough to risk a dime on something that is still vaporwear. Right now CL should be trying to re-earn the trust we had in the company before P5, instead they've launched a marketing campaign with d*mn little details.
tastiger posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 1:09 PM
"Base it on the Price in USD as they are a US company." I wasn't given the option of US$ - soon as my Country was entered - I was only given the option of euro or pound. Not that I think it is costing me much more given the current exchange rate with the $US and really the only way to know the "Real" Cost is after the amount has been debited from the creit card - anything could and most likely will happen with exchange rates between now and then. My only "real" complaint is with the shipping costs but again not much in the way of options there - unless I want to download it.....

If Cl doesn't release any news or images, people will feel frustrated at the ambiguity. If CL releases lots of information, people will scream about hype. They are walking a narrow line. Some of the old-timers might remember the "Hair" easter egg from Poser 3 and Poser 4. It was a planned feature which technically couldn't quite be made to work by release, and was simply left in and undocumented. I suspect that CL is probably only mentioning features which are either tested or they are pretty sure will pass testing. There may be others which we don't know about yet, and which they don't want to mention... lest some people on this board take it to be an iron-clad promise and spend the next 3 years complaining about it (not you Jim, but there are some who have been rather vocal). I have been user of Poser since it's inception and have accumillated figures and clothing worth more than the programs itself. To all the nay sayers who whine about the P5 fiasco, please tell me one major production software title that has performed flawlessly right out of the box. Windows 95-XP? 3D Studio Max? Corel? Adobe? Hmmm I think not. People need to get real and understand that no matter what is coded, there will be patched, fixes and updates. There are just too many bits and pieces to your computer to guarentee that all will go smoothly. Just be happy that the Poser line wasn't dropped and forgotten about.
