I just finished the second Max Mann mystery novella. It runs about 17000 words (48 single spaced pages). As always, it feels great to actually finish something. I think the two of them would make a great back-to-back book. Remember those pulp fiction books of the 50s and 60s that had two stories in them. You'd finish one, then turn the book over and start reading the second one from the other side. I seem to recall someone reviving that style. Anyone have any leads on who that might be (if I'm not just imagining it). I think Max would be an ideal candidate for that style. Well, whether I ever get it published or not, at least I finished it. Like I said - feels great! jon

Excellent!!! Happy dance for jon. I'm so glad Max Mann lives on. :) I think you have a good idea ... about packaging the two novellas together. Even if they weren't published in the manner you described, I've noticed two-for-one is a way novellas are getting published these days (either that or packaged as part of short story anthologies). Personally I would rather read a tightly written novella than an 1,000 pages of verbiage, but I guess that's just me. Anyway, congratulations, and I hope to see your name in print one of these days soon. You know I'll be in the front of the line to buy. :)

The first pair, which feature different detectives and take place in separate cities, will be released in one volume under the series name Double Homicide by Warner on October 5. **The reversible book will feature two different coversone for each novella**with each author receiving top billing.

Thanks all. This story had its roots in the April Writer's Challenge, right here on this forum. My entry, 27th Street (see link), simply became the first chapter of a full novella. Thanks for the lead, dialyn. I checked them out. Unfortunately Warner Books does not accept unsolicited manuscripts (except for Romance). While Max is a romantic at heart, it really is a mystery. But I'll keep poking around. jon
