well, i broke down, upgraded to a 64 bit system.
here's the specs.
DFI mobo
Athlon 64 bit 3400 CPU
2 GIGS cor$air memory
256meg video card
Umm, my system wasnt zaktly the slowest or oldest as it was.. but I gotta say, I can render FAST (not just 'seconds',- - really noticable).
am 'preparing' for P6...figured I'd amp up what I had.
XP home isnt 32bit, so I really wondered about any diffs... thing is, I can multitask and the PC dont bog at all with 5 (count em... FIVE!!!) memory hoggin apps running all at once.

My last system specs, an Athlon (32bit) XP 2500, 1 gig cor$air, and the rest of the same parts was "fast" too, but I couldn't multi-task without taxing the system.

A specific Poser related thingy is "global lighting" with several shadowmaps.. when there was a large amount of lights, when I rendered it, each shadowmap set to 1024 would take 2-3 seconds for the progress bar to go and switch to the next light...NOW, using the SAME global light setting, a render will instantaniously "zip! zip! zip!" faster than I can type it out, through all the lights with shadowmaps, then render faster too!
havent 'measured" the actual render "draw" in the window for time... but I can tell this was all "worth it".

just FYI..

Would you be willing to run Jim Burtons Poser5 time trial? That would be usefull to all of us. ::::: Opera :::::

Yes I would, but No p5 here... I will run his other tho! Be more than happy to!

Well here it is. I ran this before the new system, so I cant "compare" (dont have P5) PPP Jim Burton's time trial was 31.02 seconds with his settings in the PZ3. (no changes on my part) the pic was resized to fit in here...

Pretty darn good! I just ran the same test and it took 71 seconds. . . (P4 - 3Ghz 1 Gig Ram)

And just remember, kiddes, that '3400' is the PR rating, not the clock speed....which I =think= is still under 3 ghz.

looks to be that P5 is slower for everbody. Still, whatever P6 brings, im sure my system will be faster than before based on the numbers here.

SVDL.... FOUR GIGS OF RAM???? WOW!!!! thats a screamer I'll bet. ;)

Dale B. "And just remember, kiddes, that '3400' is the PR rating, not the clock speed....which I =think= is still under 3 ghz".
You are correct. The actual clock speed for the 3400 is clocked at 2.2 with PC 3200 (400Mhz) memory.. But , it runs stable overclocked(tested to 3400 with the right cooling stuff). Amd has sone this for a while. I call it a "marketing ploy" The difference is it has 1 full meg of cache on the chip. lol

I've got a rig almost exactly like svld and get the same time....157-159 for the Poser5 test...but

S., did you see the thread where some guy with a half-gig Ram and a 3200+ is doing better than us by 12 seconds??

I saw it. But the image he posted is of the old P4 CPU test, not the P5, and since the P4 CPU test scene has no raytracing or dynamic hair I can believe it's faster!

That's what I think, as well S., but after so many posts talking and showing image from P5 Test, i find it hard to believe he continues to report results from P4. I Think I'll ask specifically. ::::: Opera :::::
