**Step 1:** Catch an insect, and scan the wings OR - if you're feeling a bit nice, make a vein map in your favourite paint program. Start with a darkish grey for the main veins, then add in smaller lines with a lighter grey.

Step 2: Click in the first channel next to transparency, then click the 'P' on the A channel to the right to change the material to a picture.

Step 3: Click the black circle in the first box, and load your vein map into the second box of the picture editor. Click the half white/black circle to invert it.

This makes the dark gray bits less transparent than the lighter areas. You could do the vein map in whites on a black background, but I find the grey on white easier to work with.

Step 4: Change the mapping to object top.

Step 5: Click next to specular and specular halo in the B channel. Choose a nice iridescent texture (this one is rainbow from the psychedelic menu).

Step 6: Increase the specularity value until you get the effect you want.

Step 7: Change the transparent colour to an insect wing type colour.

That's it :)
