Can someone please explain the difference between transparency maximum and transparency minimum; and what is fall-off in this context? (There's need of a good manual on Poser basics.)

There is one. It is called Poser 4 or ProPack manual. ;) Transparency Min refers to edges of object facing away from the eye. Transparency Max refers to the part of the object which points at the eye. Transparency Falloff determines rate at which transparency becomes opaque on edges. This is sort of like a Fresnel effect (without the lensing), but better to think of a glass. The visible edges on the cylindrical part of a glass are less transparent due to the grouping (greater density of material) there then at the front.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.
