i took 3 shots of this log. here's the first shot. the next two pics that follow show some postwork i've done. this is not finished by any means. i'm still playing around. in terms of compo, what do you think? you find those branches on the left distracting. i took a few other shots without the branches but not sure i like them. if i have time before work, i'll post those as well. let's see what i have time for... thanks guys! here's the original.

I like the first play most. The second has too much blue. And no, I don't find the branches distracting, cause they lean towards the inside of the pic and lead towards the log. Although the pic is a bit too dark in the shadows. The last two look a bit empty to me.

Sheila,
The first 2 are really good (IMO). The branches and that little piece of the lakeshore lead my eyes right to the old fallen tree. There's more of a connection (they all fit together and are related in someway). I also like that the shadow casted allows us to see some of the lakebed under the water (added details).

The 3rd (postworked) one seems a bit to contrasty...vivid yet darker, water is too blue and the shadow is now completly obscuring the wonderful underwater details.

The other shots just seem "off"...too much empty space as was commented by others and the tree seems to be floating in space to me, no connection to the lakeshore (as in the first shot.) The land and branches at top these images are distracting as well. This pulls my eyes away from the main subject (the tree).

Hope this helps!

Joe!

thanks so much guys! i appreciate your input!! this day that i was shooting i was trying so many settings to get to know my cam. And with this image, i was trying to consciously think about composition. i don't like the last 2 either. :) i'm pretty close to deciding on this image, but i couldn't help but to play around with it more. i like this one too. i'll think about it.
