Subject: Carrara 4 Training CD

Hi everyone, I asked this at the end of my previous thread concerning the Carrara 3 Handbook, but I figured I would get more responses if I asked about it in a new thread. So here goes: I had a look at theCarrara 4 training CD. Listened to a few of the samples. It appears well done, but rather basic info stuff, at least in the samples on the site. The good stufff I guess might be in the sections that arent in the samples. Any comments on the CD? Is it worth the 100 bucks?I like the whole Quicktime approach, Im just wondering about the actual content. Is it just a quicktime version of the manual or is there more to it? Thanks for the input, H&B

Perhaps no one here has shelled out the 100 bucks. To me it seems like a lot for a CD but I've not seen it so can't comment on whether it's worth it or not.

I bought the CS3 version. And after watching it, I sold it. It was decent, but I did find it lacking in actually describing how to use features. If you are relatively new to Carrara, it might be useful, otherwise, your money is better spent with 3dxtract.

i only bought the carrara 2 when i was using cs2 vtc cd some years ago and was very bored and sold it via ebay one day later.i would say that the manual of carrara is enough and the carrara studio 3 handbook too,you dont need more and when you have a problem then ask, there will be good help here in the forum.save the money for carrara plugins.

Well, I decided to forget about the CD. I went through a few more of the sample quicktime files and wasnt impressed (not 100 dollars worth anyway). I decided to get the Carrara Studio 3 Handbook and some of the 3dXtract back issues. It's cheaper but the content seems superior. Thanks everyone for the input. Cheers, H&B

There is only one book for learning Carrara and that is the Carrara Studio 3 Handbook. So for sure get that. You will run across big problems with the second tutorial on building that airplane unless you are really framilar with Carrara. I would also go for the CD if this is your first time with Carrara. Its not a great CD but like the book its the only one around and will speed up your introduction to Carrara. Get it also. If you use or have used other 3D application you will at once have to get used to the Carrara coordinate system where the z-axis is the y-axis and the y-axis is the z-axis. Saving your models you will be given the option to correct these axis on export so you can use them in other 3D applications. Good luck and check back often.

I am fairly famiiar with Carrara. But since Im going from version 2 to 4, I wanted a little extra help. I have ordered the Handbook (cant wait to get my hands on it). Since its not my first introduction to Carrara I dont think the Cd is absolutely necessary. Well see after Ive gone throught he handbook. I have read on the forums at 3dxtract that there is some kind of issue with that airplane tutorial. Hopefully with the forums here and at 3dxtract I should be able to work through it. Cheers, H&B

You won't need the CD then at all and you should be able to go through the Handbook without any trouble. Happy modeling.
