Okay, so im modelling this stargate, which will be fully posable (the ring will spin, the chevrons will lock individually, there will be seperate MAT poses for active chevrons and inactive, and if i get bored enough i will make an Atlantis gate retexture as well). And here is the first shot of it, thus far.

What's a Starga---...Interstellar Ring?

(I'm not too current on my SF technologies.) Looks good so far, whatever it is.

Its a Stargate...im just lamenting about the whole copyright thing going around...can tall a wookie a wookie and all that. But yeah, its a stargate.

Second Image of Work in Progress

Should just call it a wormhole activator. Just a suggestion, there are a number of "stargate" type models out there but most of them don't include the base, especially the one for gates outside on the planets. So if you could in a base and an accurate dialer this would be a superior version. A nice morphing wormhole interface/event horizon would be great as well. Keep up the good work.

I plan on making a version with the Stone Base and DHD for offworld planets, and one with the steel ramp for inside the SGC....also there will be an even horizon with Ripple Morphs and i hope a Woosh morph for when its activated...only thing i do see becomming a problem is the Iris.

Awesome! It looks great so far. I agree with the base idea. Stargate's can't stand up on their own (and now I have a picture of Jack chasing after one rolling away...). Keep us updated!

Here is the Work in Progress of the Whoosh or Vortex

kuroyume0161 posted Thu, 03 March 2005 at 10:10 PM

What is all the hoopla about copyrights and just calling it was it represents? They've done a show about a show about the show where someone is getting mental images and writing a book about the show on the show and sees the show about the show and gets all bent out of shape. Do you follow? ;) As long as you're not selling it and naming it "Stargate (tm)(r)(c)(rm)", why should they care? Are all of the Trekkies/ers who dress up as Captain Piccard or Kirk infringing of something? Sell it as the "Wormhole Portal", give it away as the "Stargate".

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

an iris is easy to do, ive made a few for a camera prop ill leave you to find how to do ^_^ so simple

Furyofaseraph posted Thu, 03 March 2005 at 10:22 PM

completed the Event Horizon mesh - dunno what im gonna do about materials... There are going to be 3 morphs (4 if i can get a certain one to work). One will vary the standing water effect, Another will create the outgoing whoosh, and another will create the concaving effect that occurs after the whoosh in the movie (for some reason they dont keep it in the show). Hopefully i will be able to get the ripple morph working where ripples when someone walks through.

Oglethorpe: We have successfully traveled eons across both space and time through the Fargate ... to get free cable!

Emory: I think it's a St--Stargate?

Oglethorpe: It's the "Fargate." F. It's different from that movie which I have never seen ... so how would I copy it?

Emory: Chill, man. It's all right ... let's just turn it on.

Oglethorpe: I just want to make sure that we are clear it's the Fargate. Goes far, get it? And there's just no way it came from that movie or that syndicated series based on the movie.

Emory: But, it sure was a good movie.

Oglethorpe: Ya, yes it was.

The event horizon and whoosh effect look great. Texturing it shouldn't be too hard(says he who once spent an afternoon photographing bursting bags of water for a splash effect). Looking forward to this.

Looking good. I'm keeping an eye on this thread...

Furyofaseraph posted Sat, 05 March 2005 at 5:20 PM

Working on the base at the moment - its gonna be a really simple one, im not very good at rocks, lol...if anyone with any 3dMax experiance could lend a hand at that, i would greatly appreciate it. Anyways, yeah, Base and staircase is being worked on, then the SGC Ramp. afterards i think i have to bite the bullet and model the DHD - which ive been dreading to do as its a very complex unit.

Furyofaseraph posted Sat, 05 March 2005 at 7:08 PM

Finished the platform and stairs - plus made some Ancient-text Obelisks. The upper platform will be a seperate entity from the larger one. The stairs will have 2 morphs, which are shown here. One is arounded arc, the other is a wide taper. All i need do is make the SGC ramp, then on to the DHD.
