I know when C4 was coming out, many of the users got excited with ray traced DOF. I have been playing with the latest demo and really can't tell the difference between normal and ray traced depth of field. I know one is done during the render and the other is done post but considering the render times for the ray traced version, why would I want to use that? Here are two examples. If there is a quality difference, it is very subtle.

Raytraced DOF works through transparency and alpha masks/planes. Regular DOF does not and will keep everything "in focus" if it occurs behind something transparent. Mark

I knew an excellent user would have an excellent answer for my question. Thanks.

I think the bluring looks more natural in the images I have seen using raytraced dof. Regular seems to create an odd halo effect and I cant really get good results from it.
