Im new to Bryce, not to 'Rosity. I Try to export obj. file to Bryce from Poser... all I get is a gray statue like figure, and hair shows up freaky looking. Q: How can I keep the textures from Poser to Bryce? If not... How do I do the textures IN Bryce? THANK YOU!

Ah, the 2nd most frequently asked question..;)
1st- Poser has texture files (often .jpg, but sometimes .bum, .tif, .png..ok, I'm oversimplifiying, but anyway)..and these texture files must go along with the object sent from Poser to Bryce. You should have seen some messages saying that 'x needs the following file' from whatever directory, to bring that texture in. You can find Poser textures in RuntimeTextures directory of Poser.
As for the 'freaky' hair, dynamic objects don't export well or at all from Poser. If you're tweaking the figure in Poser, and the hair shows up as a white grid, chances are good that you won't see it when you get to Bryce. Sadly, sometimes you have to use stock hair to get away from 'ol Baldy'..;)
Now, there are options. Quickly, they are

  1. Texture the 'statue' in Bryce (control +mouse click, select 'shoulder_01', choose a Bryce Material, etc)
  2. Go to Freebies here and do a search for 'Grouper', a utility that automates a lot of the above
  3. Get Daz Studio (free from Daz 3d), and export from there (they own Bryce, and there's a Importer plugin for Bryce from their site as well)
there's more to it, but this should be enough to get you started..

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Oh man, there was a great tut on importing Poser figures into Bryce a few months back. I have the link on my other computer. If you follow that tut step-by-step, your poser models appear as they would in poser itself. It was really awesome. I'll try and get that link.

The biggest problem with importing on obj file is that all the image files for textures are expected to be in the same folder as the object file. Daz does this when exporting from Daz studio. There are a number of utilities that will automate this for you. There is a python script and there is a utility in the poser freestuff here called pegetmaterials.

Most hair figs that work in P4 will export fine into bryce, although you have to apply the transmaps in the tex editor. Kozaburo does some really good hair, and easy to get into bryce. Its also free. link on side bar "Digital babes"

This one will get you started. There are different ways to get the textures into Bryce. I do a search in windows explorer for the first of each group. Some people use "Grouper". Rochr's Tut will give you the mechanics. It just takes practice, after a few times it'll be much easier.
