Aye, oftentimes Bryce users migrate to more fruitful lands, be it Maya, Lightwave, Cinema 4D, or (godforbid) 3D Studio... And although this seems depressing, it's a natural event. Bryce is at it's core an introduction to 3D animation and rendering. Many of us have tweaked it to do what the programmers had never envisioned, and have rendered amazing scenes and produced some wonderful artwork! By no means do I wish anyone to stop doing such, and there's no way anyone could get ME to stop doing the same! But for the sake of objectivity I bring to you, again, the massive power of the Unreal Engine. This screenshot, one among many, is Unreal 3.0 in action. It is a real-time screenshot. The render time for this frame was less than 1/60th of a second. The original frame was 1600x1200, but I shrunk it to fit the forum's 200Kb limit... That's right, realtime rendering. New graphics chips have brought realtime beauty to us, if only we reach out and grab for it... There is also a tech video you can find for free online, showing in full-motion how powerful this technology is. Unreal 3 incorporates a variety of high-end developements, like HDR lighting and displacement mapping, and all of this happens in realtime. My point in bringing this up is not to discourage anyone, but to remind us that the industry grows exponentially. And also to remind us to NEVER settle for mediocrity. There's no reason our imagery done with Bryce cannot match these screenshots, so go forth and really push yourselves! Don't cut corners and make fakes, do it RIGHT, and remember that realtime 3D is blowing our renders away... Unless we counter it with content, and beautiful scenery, Bryce and all of it's cohorts will be left in the dust by Unreal and other gaming engines. Also, don't settle for second-best from our sources, either. If Bryce 6 can't do, for $400 or whatever they plan on selling it for, what Unreal 3.0 can do for $50, then don't even waste your time. There is simply NO reason that Bryce previews don't look this good. There is simply NO reason that Corel can't make Bryce 6 at least equal to the Unreal engine, in terms of technical power. And, for ME, if they can't even do that much to keep up, they are wasting my time. I will continue to use Bryce as a tool for imagery, but if Bryce's poor programming and outdated technology get in my way... Science is menacing, and I won't stand for being left behind by second-rate software when the UNreal thing is available, right now, for dirt-cheap. Enough ranting! Enjoy these images, I hope they inspire someone to do something wonderful...!
