Hi jasonmit. I like your modeling and your basic composition in this pic, but the haze looks like it is set too high IMO, and everything in the background then becomes a little too "blue". The length and angle of your tree shadows from left to right make it appear that the shadow of the last tree to the right parallleling the porch would be touching the row of high hedges in the right background. If this is the case, than the hedge would be too close to be that affected by atmospheric haze, unless the smog where you're at is much worse than here,lol.

Oh, I forgot to say that sometimes turning off gamma correction in the render options and using more radials and directional fill lights can help give a render more depth.

Hi neat image... however, if you'd like a critique perhaps I can help make it a bit better? as a matter of taste...I hate ambiance on textures. It makes everything look like its casting its own light and gives a "cartoonish" look overall. I'd personally turn the ambiance off on every texture... I'd also (for the final render) use soft shadows to make it look sooooo much more real and since we're on "shadows"...recently a question came up about this at the DAZ forum which I answered and may help you here. Notice in the photo you posted how there are different "levels" of shadow? for instance..the pot has a darker shadow cast from it because its a shadow of both the porch and the pot. To make this actually work in bryce is a minor texture change..but it'd need to be applied to every texture. Anyhow, if you make every model "0.01" transparent..it will in no way be "see thru" but bryce will interact with it differently and the resultant image will have "layered" shadows (see picture) if you have the computer power, ya may want to see if you can add some grass models (you can get them free at 3d cafe...used to be a www.3dplants.com...made by drew costigan) They add TONS to an image for final details. anyhow, I love the image. I like images where people are creating buildings with bryce models. :) have fun..and hope to see this when its completed (that is assuming you are still working on it). BT

brycetech, thanks for the tips. I'm in the process of turning down the ambience on everything and it's looking much better. I'll also be using soft shadows. I probably won't use the other shadow tip on this image, but will try it in the future. I'll try grass models, but there's a lot of space to cover. Thanks again.

this is MUCH better! but as mentioned..if youd but do the transparency thing, you'd say "WOW" yourself! :) oh the plants I mentioned...I shoulda been clearer I didnt mean put them everywhere..just here, there and yon... like places where youd expect to see them (around the base of the trees, at the edges of the walk...you know, places where the average joe would trim just "so" :) gotta say tho, this one is a big step above the first one :) BT
