The CL site offers this bundle Poser 5 English + Poser 6 Special Edition Upgrade Preorder Need Poser NOW? Get Poser 5 immediately and still receive a FREE download of the Poser 6 SPECIAL EDITION! Over $600 in value, now ONLY $239! Why do you suppose anyone would want BOTH when P6 is supposed to be a major upgrade?

A month ago that was an ok offer, start using P5 right away and get P6 when it was released, but being as the release is only a couple days away, the offer has lost its appeal.

why would I want Poser 5 and the Poser 6 UPGRADE instead of just getting Poser 6...for the same price....

odeathoflife posted Fri, 18 March 2005 at 11:47 PM

Plus you would get Poser 5 right now so you could start using it, and then later on you could have Poser 6 and use what you had learned with Poser 5 on Posr 6.

odeathoflife posted Fri, 18 March 2005 at 11:59 PM

yeaha but what can you learn in 3 days?

Not much. But a month or two back you could have learned your way around the user interface and maybe figured out how to do some poses and a few simple renders.

Well, you can use Poser 5 while you are waiting for the patches fixing all Poser 6 bugs. Just kidding !

What!? You mean we can't use Poser 5 while waiting for the patch that fixes all of the Poser 6 bugs? Dammit, that's the last straw.

Screw image-based lighting
Screw ambient occlusion
Screw subsurface scattering (drool)
Screw the new figures
Screw it all! I'm uninstalling everything and going back to Poser 2!!!

...no I'm not ;p

If your going to develop products you could use it to check compatability. I have seen the occational comment from people that they are not going to upgrade, or they are waiting for the bugs to be worked out.

but the 6 is the upgrade...doesn't that mean you have to install 5 before you can install the 6 upgrade...everytime you reformat and need to reinstall.

Nope. Not unless CL has changed long standing practices. Each iteration of Poser can exist and co-exist quite happily on the same machine; one does not overwrite the other unless you tell it to.....and odds are you will break what you have by doing so.

I have PhotoShop 4 AND PhotoShop 6 both sitting quietly together on the Mac. Why would I keep 4? Well, they changed a couple of the tools and PS6 has a problem with loading fonts. They are independent, and didn't override anything. Same thing with Poser. P4 and ProPack reside happily together... and I decide which icon to click on. Carolly

it will also be handy when everyone who preordered is downloading the software and tying up the server(s). Instead of fighting the download I will be happy working in P5 (that I got with this offer) and wait until the dust settles to try to download P6.
