I once owned "helensplace.com" for many years. I dumped it when I moved to Arkansas 2 years ago and got another domain.

Anyways, I got curious today (due mostly to boredom) and did a search for it to see what others are doing with it now. Well, much to my surprise I saw this instead. I really pity the poor fool who pays that fee for sure! lol

How do they get away with this ripoff anyway?

heh. it's a sub-registrar which most likely keeps the rights to the domain name even after you've bought it. and it's a common first name and a relatively short .com url. So it's in demand. Not for that much, but still. drac

That seeq graphic seems a bit gruesome ...

Doing a DNS lookup for helensplace.com..yes, it belongs to this people...but what is more interesting, is that years ago I was doing a search for helensplace and the .net and .org were taken by another Helen. I assumed that when my own expired, this other Helen would snap it up...however, it looks like no one has snapped it up at all as yet. Anywhoo...I should have hung onto the domain and just put a page up that said it was for sale and selling it for a price that at least would have recouped my total expense in it. Ok...now back to your regularly scheduled Brycing program. :)

I think the graphic illustrates what happens to those who deal with such a company. lol
