For those who asked: this is the version of the image with default settings from the camera and Light Conversion Tool to TIF. It's hard to judge beforehand whether the more sophisticated tools deliver better results - but I think this example proves it to be worth the time anyway... And the HyperUtility of Fujifilm costs more than 100 EUR (but is better though less flexible than some freeware tools. --- That's the major reason why I use RAW files whenever I'm not sure about the outcome - e.g. experimenting with light etc.)

I think this is a case where I would do it in B&W..after a bit of lightening and contrast adjs

it works very well in b/w - even printed in A3 size - but the colour version is also charming in my view ... (only adjusting lighting and contrast do not work however - use of the RAW information is crucial)

i looked at the one in your gallery and noticed what seemed to be some red splotches on her body. the image also seemed a bit grainy. Perhaps that was intentional though. i know some people like to use grain. I also thought the one in your gallery seemed a bit over-exposed in parts. You did say you were experimenting with light though. and i think you said you were trying to correct the underexposure in the original? i dunno, if it were me, i would have tried shooting this one again...maybe lowering my ISO and adding another light source. but you were experimenting, and maybe you got the image you were hoping for. everyone loves your image and no one said anything about this in the comments. Just goes to show my inexperience i guess. anyway, it's just my 2 cents here. take it with a grain of salt. i'm just a beginner at this!!! besides that, i'm pretty sleepy. and besides that, sometimes i seen green in images when it's not really there!!! LOL!!!! (seriously). probably just my eyes tonight! sorry! :)

I like how you recovered some detail from this. :~) But I'll be honest here the colored noise in the gallery version sort of ruins it for me. I'll admit to not being a big fan of grain. But grain can be used effectively to create a mood or atmosphere. Noise though in it's red, blue and green splotchiness just doesn't do anything for me..... That's only one girls opinion here... I think the pose and lighting were very dramatic in themselves. Were it my image I might have tried running it though a grain program, to see if the noise levels could have been reduced a bit.

@Michelle: it's not my thing either to create grain where no film delivered it - this is the b/w version from Fuji's hyperutility (a tool like s7raw only sticks to - well adaptable - colours) with sharpness set to SOFT . this is my favourite and prints well even in A3...

Ahhhh..... yes aesthetically this is much more appealing to me. This BW version is beautiful..... and I bet the print is as you say, wonderful. :~)

Yeah, now i find this b/w version to be MUCH better!!! What a difference!!! it does feel much softer and i really love the lighting now!!! not sure exactly what you did but the lighting seems a lot less harsh and just really looks fantastic!!! I see why this one is your favorite!!!!! i find this one very beautiful too!!!! :)

That black&white version is splendid indeed!! My choice too, 100% even if I think the color one isn't THAT bad!

I too preferr the B&W, though a hint of color might be a nice effect.
