I have poser6 loaded on a Xeon with a Nvidia Quatro4 750 XGL card (6.14.10.6573 driver).
I'm not seeing much of an improvement in interactive shading and geometry manipulation over what I get with the built-in Scree3D.
One millinium figure still seems very sluggish and heavy to use. Especially when compared to Maya, which can truly move heavy geometry quickly.
Is anyone getting noticeably better performance with OpenGL?
Any suggestions, tips, wooden nickels?

hmm running on a GeforceFX 5200* here and it glides... also tested on a Geforce4 Ti4800*.. and it glided there as well... maybe a driver update? *Both have 128mb ram and were running Dual 17" Monitors at 1280x1024 res.

For interested parties;
Nvida Quadro4 750 XGL is not a god card for P6
Performance is very sluggish - even with the latest drivers.
My GeForeceFX 5200 smokes it.

OpenGL is not only a question of speed here, but also of options in the driver. comparing a top-level gamer card with a medium-level pro card is like comparing a formula1 car with a van. both have their specific advantages and serve another purpose.

The latest Nvidia reference driver for the Quadro is 71.84. http://www.nvidia.com/page/partner_certified_drivers.html Glad to hear those performance reviews for the 5200. I replaced my 5200 earlier this year with a slightly faster 5700LE, and was hoping it'd be sufficient for now. I should probably order another 512MB of RAM while I'm waiting for P6 to ship ....

Anyone with P6 using a Radeon card? Was wondering how they work with P6.

Colm over at RDNA said he was using a 9800 pro (I have one so I'm hoping it works well). I dunno how it's workin out for him, but he at least wasn't complaining about it. :)

So far the Radeon Pro 9800 works fine for me.

I have a Radeon 9800 XT running on a dual xeon 2.4 with 2 gigs of ram and I dont notice any speed difference at all with OpenGL. This really bummed me out because I was hoping this openGL issue would help me with animating in poser so I could get the timings down better having something close to realtime playback but sadly its just about the same, still skips about the same number of frames. also rotating the model in the viewport isnt much faster.
Berserga posted Mon, 28 March 2005 at 7:31 AM
did you try turning off "skip frames?"
object22 posted Mon, 28 March 2005 at 7:50 AM
Yes, that is how I run it by default.
