Do you ever have one of those moments when you decide to do something and there's a little nagging feeling you have that maybe you shouldn't do it? Well, dumbass me, I should have listened to the voice saying 'don't do it'. I finally got my PC running fine again, it was the video card. So today I decide to go into bios and set a password. Should be simple, seems simple, put it in, confirmed it, saved it, then the unthinkable happened. A black screen and a continual, slow, beeep, beeeep, beeeep, on and on. I turned off the power, turned it back on, black screen, beeep, beeeep I'm almost gonna cry. But instead I'm gonna post here and see if anyone knows what I can do, I'll be back after I have breakfast. Please tell me its something simple. Please! Thanks guys.

damn, that sucks! I've never used bios passwords though so I don't know what it could be :-/

easy fix: 1) open up your puter. physically. 2) look at the mobo (the big board with everything sticking out of it) 3) take out its battery 4) wait for 2 minutes 5) put it back your bios should be reset to factory conditions (And the password erased) drac

The battery is a really small button one, like the batteries in watches.

OK I don't want to open up things etc. I've gotten into bios again, not sure now what to do. I click on set password and it lets me do it, but I'm afraid to leave bios, I want to disable it but I can't seem to figure out how that works? the arrow keys don't change anything, well I'll keep experimenting. I'll see what happens when I esc. maybe it didn't like my password, don't know what kind of rules they have for that password.
will keep you guys updated, hopefully, lol. Edit, got the password disabled, but it did the beeping thing again, so I'm thinking it may be a heat issue, something is too warm. I don't know, thats just a guess. Gonna give it a few minutes to cool down and see what happens. Sheesh, this will drive me nuts!

OK rebooted and right at the beginning of starting up I get this message: CPU is unworkable or has been changed please recheck CPU - soft menu What does that mean! It sounds so serious :/

Ang25 posted Sat, 26 March 2005 at 8:42 AM

ok I'm jumping for joy right now! Turns out all I had to do was press the F1 key. Thanks guys for helping me, sorry to have been a bother
:-D But the guy who helped me did say that its not normal to do what it did, so I'm gonna have to check the seating of the card and the ram too. big Sigh

It means you need to put it in a box with S&H and send it to... ;) In all seriousness though, it sounds like you accidentally tweaked something you shouldn't have. You need to find the manual for that particular motherboard and do some reading.

OMG I wonder if thats the problem, a while back I changed the bios to do some kind of alert if the something was being changed. Of course I can't remember the specifics, and I certainly didn't expect it to react this way, lol, but maybe just maybe thats what caused it?

Oh and btw, Ang, Happy Birthday! :)

Happy Birthday ANG!!! :)

Happy Birthday Ang. Glad you sorted the puter. The beeps indicate what's wrong. Probably the second most common problem I used to solve was people who had assigned passwords. I always took the battery out to fix it. (Number one was black screens caused by monitors not being on!)

If there's no RAM available, it typically will just give you a black screen and lots of beeps. ;) Glad it's working for you, though. Nevanna

well, happy b'day..there's nothing that can't be solved by a bigger hammer..;) Yeah, I know it's a pain, but NEVER throw out the docs..when you run into problems like this 6 months down the road, and your '8 delicious super long march system board' is beeping 'the East is Red', you can get a web site or phone number at least to help you out (sorry, I build my own pc's so I get ..well, 'off brand' stuff a lot..it's saved my bacon once or twicet..;)

Happy Birthday Ang!! I doubt that you are that old. My Dad just had his 53 b-day today, not that he is old or anything, now my grandfather is starting to get old..... Cheers :)

A VERY Happy Birthday to you, Ang!! Glad everything is going better now. :)

Quest posted Sun, 27 March 2005 at 11:36 PM

Well, a day late (actually, looking at the time, Im two days late) and a dollar short wouldnt you know. Alright, so heres two dollars dont spend it all in the same place! ;) Sorry I missed your birthday but Im just getting back from my Easter weekend with the family. So I hope you had a very happy birthday! Next time, imagine you're a fine wine. And aint it strange when things work the way you programmed them to? Many happy returns of the day.

Ang25 posted Mon, 28 March 2005 at 9:25 AM

:-D better late than never, and woe is me again, the problem sort of still exists but in a milder form. I've got more research ahead of me it seems to get this pc up and running right.

Swade posted Tue, 29 March 2005 at 4:30 AM

Don't feel bad Quest.... I am later than you. Hope you had a great birthday Ang. Sorry I am so late with the birthday wish.
