Just read at the Tech Report that the 64 bit version of windows is expected to assign 4 GB of usable memory (rather than the former 2 GB maximum) to 32 bit processes (e.g. like Poser 5/6 being run on Windows 64 bit edition). If this is true, and if Poser can use it, then it will effectively double the amount of memory that can be used without any need for a re-compiled version of Poser (or any other 32 bit app for that matter). Has anyone got a 64 bit PC with Windows for 64 bit (the latest beta release candidate) and 4GB or more of memory - and can you confirm this improvment does actually happen? Sadly I still only have a 32 bit PC, but I'd really like to know if an upgrade would be worth it. Regards and thanx, Jovial.

Hmm, well I have a 64 bit CPU but no 64 bit operating system yet. Just Windows XP.

Unfortunately the Windows 64 bit beta testing period has now closed but MS have apparently indicated that they will be exchanging Win XP Pro for Win XP 32/64. We only need to wait until the 29th April.

That soon? I figured it would be nest year as much as it keeps getting pushed back.

My CPU with 4GigRam sits here, awatin'. AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Operating Frequency 2.2GHz FSB Integrated into Chip Cache Level 1 64KB+64KB; Level 2 512KB Socket 939 Even though this is a great chip, I am beginning to suspect, through interaction with other Poser power users, that the lack of 1024 L2 cache is a serious drag on an otherwise smokin' setup. But bring on XP 64! I'm ready. ::::: Opera :::::

LOL! We've Linux x86_64 on one of the work servers for years... 'bout time Microsoft caught up (evil grin.) In all seriousness though, they would have to re-compile Poser to take advantage of the new environment before it became of any real use, otherwise it ends up running in some sort of 32-bit compatibility mode. /P

Yep, I knew that. I really like linux. The only problem is most of my graphics programs are window proggies. YOu'd think MS would get a clue by now...
