Hi all, Now I know you all missed me like anything... (koff, (dubious expression) - yeah, like a sore thumb) gg Finally moved, finally got Bryce5 working, been reading my loverly Bryce bible for just days! Nearly replaced the TV the Bryce Bible did! ....of course, I don't have the ubiquitous sky installed here yet, so that could have something to do with it. Okay, question: Which texture for the castle is the better one do you think? I put different textures on the 7 different sections, running from left to right: 1. left turret = "small stone wall" on cylindrical at 16% 2. 1st flat wall section = "Wet Slate" on object cubic at 1% 3. 1st square tower = "Big Regular Stone" on obj' cub' at 8% 4. Centre Arched Wall = "Rough Stone" on obj' cub' at 20% 5. 2nd Sq Tower = "Castle Wall from 3D Cafe" on obj' cub' at 2% 6. 2nd flat wall section = "Castle Wall from 3D Cafe" on obj' cub' at 4% 7. Lastly the right turret = "Castle Wall from 3D Cafe" on cylindrical at 4% So which do you think looks best? Or should I try something else entirely? if so, what? Fran

#1 & #7 look best to me in this scene.

#1 looks fine, #7 could do with a bit more on the bump to give the texture that rough brick look. #5 looks fine for close up renders.
I have opinions of my own -- strong
opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

I like #7 the best. You'll be changing those pointy gold things, right? I would love to see the final bigger.

I'm thinking 5 6 7 look the best.

Welcome back Fran! Hope the move wasn't too difficult.
I like 5,6,and 7 best, though I think you might increase the frequency of the textures a little to match the scale of your arched gateway. It's a lot easier to map textures in Bryce5 isn't it?:-)

Welcome back FranOnTheEdge! Glad you're finally settled in. Check out this site for some textures...start maybe with the section marked "Walls 1" and work your way from there. Looking good!

Aye, I've found it works best to create combinations of procedurals and photos. For this main material, I used three procedural components and one photo (Mayang) to drive the bump map, since we don't have displacement yet in Bryce this is the best I could do so far...
I've found that to mimic armor, it's best to just put some on. Gets kinda heavy after a few drinks, though! (Good to see you back, Fran!)

Finally!!! I've had such trouble getting online, beastly BT had to come out and fix the problem which turned out to be their underground network and NOT our brand new phone. Phew! Saved me 50 quid! Okay, so here's the whole frontage of the castle using the texture from the 7th section of the castle: Is it okay? I sort of feel it's not quite there.... I get a vague impression that there's a paler streak running along the centre of the castle.... Which may or may not be so visible when I get the angle I actually want to use sorted... dunno... what do you think? Fran

And here's the Castle with "Rough Stone" a Mayang texture - is this any better do you think? Fran

Or perhaps this one? Except... there still seams to be a repeating pattern - which is especially visible on the two centre towers... those 3 whiter splodges... dunno, what do you all think? Fran

Ooops! Just realised the Mayang texture of the "Rough Stone" was at too low a percentage, is this - at 16% - any better? Fran
