The scene is made up of two hi res spheres. One has had its normals reversed and scaled up to 8000%, diffuse colour is black.
The second has had a marble node attached to the transparency socket, ambient colour set to white, value to 0.5.
Now the fun thing is the single point light at the center of the second sphere (no other lights used), and the atmospherics turned on. (0.5 strenght on the light, 0.01 on the atmosphere material).
You could probably do this in P5 too, by putting lots of spots back to back.
Anyway thought I'd share that with you all :)
