Folks,

Im trying to make some non-spherical eyes for a character, more like an elipse. Its a simple job if you want a still image. But if you have to animate it, theres a mess. The link its a zipped .car file whit a temporally solution. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

How about making the actual eyes spherical, but the avoid using spherical eyesockets. Or will the eyes stick out on some side of the mesh then? Another way is to make the iris and/or pupil an own polymesh or object and use a bone or something like that to move them around the surface of the eye, thus giving the effect of the eyes moving (won't work well if the eyes are bloodshot).

I haven't opened the .zip file, but the eyes on Beast are elliptical. I had made the eyesockets a bit too long. When I installed the eyes, it was obvious that there was black empty space in front and behind the eye. So I just stretched the eye [and eye lid]. Of course, in this case, beast could not roll his eyes sideways. He could only look up or down.

Humm...Im thinking in something more "cartoon". Like the gopher from that link. As I see, they use small blacl iris/pupils. Maybe this is a trick to makea easier animation. Thank you guys!

The eyes look egg shaped with the pupils being smaller egg shapes painted in black gloss that are sticking out from the inside of the eyes.

Yes, I think they use some deformer (maybe in 3DS Max) to make the egg shaped and animate it. I dont know if we can get the same results with the deformers of Carrara (the taper, maybe?). Thanks, SHONNER! ;-)

Carrara should have a stretch modify that can be done on a sphere. I used Amapi 7 to do it.

The Taper modifier can do the same. I put the new file in a .txt, just change the extension to .car. The trick, apparently, is deform the bone before attach the object.
