Attached story from local newspaper. I'll let you read it to find out what it's about but I'm glad they showed some common sense and didn't go rushing in. Don't think people are getting just a little bit paranoid do you ? Message edited on: 03/29/2005 09:24

That part about the inflatable Santa is too funny. Thanks for sharing, it is indeed a sad sign of the times. I guess I better stop using that modified rifle stock I have for taking more stable photos. ;o)

Yup, use a tripod, so you look like a proper sniper. :-) Jeez, I mean, really... BTW, I think I saw my next purchase today. A nice tripod with that water thingy to make certain the camera is level. Something like 30 pounds or 50 dollars.

LostPatrol posted Tue, 29 March 2005 at 3:31 PM

Sadly it is no laughing matter, I have had more than my fair share of tumbles with the law over photography.

I have been questioned at length after photographing ducks at the local pond "wow big deal" I mean ducks, hello police get a grip!!! Meanwhile the f***ers that spray panted my car get a stern talking to and let go, and oh guess who got the 300 re-spray bill, yes it was me!!

I WILL keep shooting until they slam the cell door.

Mmmmh! Oh well! Didn't kow u were so dead serious about it huh! I never had any probs so far so I thought u were joking!
Not suprised about the fuckers who sprayed ur car though! The police don't do much around here either about all those bloody brats who are lighting fire all over the place, burning trees in the process and polluting nature with their rubbish! And, yes, it does make me SO bloody angry too!! So I understand the feeling! ;)

@LostPatrol all you have to do is use some elbow greese and compound the car. Yes it a shame of what going on in the world today and the law is doing nothing about it. should get big sticks and hit them one on the behind. But that be world headlines i guess. at less the law did not shot first then ask questions!

One thing you may be interested in. NOTE: This applies in the UK only!!! If you are confronted by the police for say taking pictures of a road accident and they wish to confiscate your camera or film they cannot do so!

LostPatrol posted Wed, 30 March 2005 at 8:26 AM

escafeld Yes I know about that one, they need a warrant to confiscate your cameras etc. (as far as I know)

great article, Richard, but in all seriousness, here in the US (in some major cities) you better be really careful about taking pictures of public trains. Someone mentioned that in New York city, you're not allowed to take pics at the subway station anymore. i guess all this comes down to 9-11 and fears of terrorism. i think the police dept needs a special until undercover photographers. i would like to apply for the job!!!!

ryno posted Wed, 30 March 2005 at 6:50 PM

Yes sadly it is true in New York City you can't take pictures, well let me rephrase that:} , it's against the law to take pictures in the subway, on bridges, and other " key facilities " like power stations. As if the our local terrorist is going to pull out his D70! Cameras are no longer easy to identify. They can be integrated into cell phones, personal digital assistants or concealed in virtually in any other object. I have one that is the size of a credit card. So what's the point? Besides the fact the any self respecting terrorist would get architectural plans off the net to do a really bang up job on his target. IMHO it's all about control of the masses. Give the illusion of threat, the illusion of protection, and justify military spending of our money to make those in power richer. Sorry to all of you who wanted a casual read, are unaware, or don't want to think about it, but this is our reality in the United States, and most other industrial nations. This is fact IMHO reading 10 to 15 different news sites a day not supported by the members WTO. One more thing I have learned, it's not helpful to complain about a problem unless you have thought about possible solutions. I have lots of thoughts on solutions the least radical I can offer is get informed and get active in your own local, state, federal process about anything that concerns you. All I can say about this is that over here, in Europe, we have access to some informations that u Americans don't have for obvious political reasons and we can see that America is slowly but surely becoming a dictatorship! And what u just said Jim is absolutely true!

Blimey and I thought it was just an amusing story. scared.gif Oh well yes it has a serious side - we are not allowed to take photographs at some places here in London. The underground train network is one and the Palace of Westminster is another. So destroy any pics. you have of Big Ben before you get caught !!!! hide.gif

Cell phones-cameras are becoming a BIG problem it would seem! Here is New Jersey...they want to make it mandatory for them to emmit an audible CLICK sound when you are taking pictures. This way...its a kind of alert that makes people more aware that a pic is being taken.

There have also been stories of people taking pics in public bathrooms (as in under the stalls) with cell-cams and pedophiles using them to grab shots of children, which is pretty scary in my book.

Technology has a way of "biting us in the ass" so it would seem and there are creepy people, who take advantage of the tech thats available for their own disgusting purposes.

That's progress for ya!

True but shouldn't we, "sane" people, have access to the latest technology because some pervs are on the loose?? I say, shoot the pervs and long live technology! ;P

jocko500 posted Thu, 31 March 2005 at 5:26 PM

lol the underbilly of the web is useing those photos of upshirts and under the bathroom stalls and xray shots of people and women goen wild ar parties to make money that is what a lot of that about. I saw ads and some of the photos myself. You know the movies of "women goen wild" they had ads on tv about them and some of the women was sueing those movie people for not getting premitting to produce the movie with them in it. It sad today if you take photos of some thng or even people you be in touble. and not by the police if you take photos of some of the outlaw bikes like the Hell Angels they be on you and you do not go to jail just get kick real bad.
