I am entitled to my opinion after all :)
No......you are entitled to my opinion.
;-)
I just got so many nasty private messages I wanted to set the record straight :)
I can honestly say that in all of the forum debates that I've ever been involved in (which have been many)......I've only received a nasty PM once. And that wasn't over a debate which occured on this site.
[[Perhaps my opponents are wise enough to understand that a nasty IM won't have the desired effect. ;-).]]
So I am somewhat surprised when I see others that have gotten such IM's. Especially lots of them.
Frankly, sometimes discretion really is the better part of valor. Best to simply drop a not-really-so-important-in-the-greater-scheme-of-things type issue.
Chances are that bringing the matter up again is only going to serve to exacerbate the problem.
If it bothers you, then I would recommend forwarding nasty IM's on to an admin or to a mod.

I think thats the best advice yet... Now where did I pot that "not-really-so-important-in-the-greater-scheme-of-things " folder ? :)

That folder is also commonly known as "the Round File", or "File 13".
Over the years, I've learned to stick lots of stuff into that file.
Life is more sanitary that way.

I'm staying clear of any cross-fire... but just one thought occurs. I haven't got Poser 6 yet, but Poser 5 was notoriously unable to render certain particular items without lock-up problems (the DAZ Bombshell hair and Mihai hair spring to mind). Has rendering for such items been made any easier in Poser 6 (a general question). Regarding your own specific lock-up experience, although I would tend to agree with comments in the earlier thread that a scene with four millenium characters might be taxing (certainly to my own system)... is there any possibility that your attempts to render in Firefly are being hampered to an even greater extent by using any similar 'problem' items as these DAZ hair types.
stupidest_login_ever posted Wed, 30 March 2005 at 2:18 PM
I never had any problems with the DAZ Bombshell hair in p5. It happens to be one of the few Hair sets I own and I like it lots! The models I am using are V3 and M3,(from daz) the Romero Interceptor (from PoserWorld) The US cop outfit (from Poserworld) BVH's Temptations of She-Devil (from right here on RO) and the Arizona Hair (from Daz). I have used them all in P5, and I have never had any trouble. Maybe it is just too much for P6 to handle....... which was kinda my gripe in the first place. I am going to reinstall Poser 5 later and just wait for a p6 service release. I am really not into single figure renders. I am THRILLED with Shade 7. I think I am going to learn alot from it :D
Starkdog posted Wed, 30 March 2005 at 2:19 PM
Just curious, Why is your max texture size 800? Poser may be choking because it is trying to scale down multiple textures. Just for S#its and giggles, set the max texture size to 4000, and re-render. Also, what bucket size are you using? Unless I missed it before, could you post a screenshot of your rendering settings? Thanks and good luck. -The Starkdog

I'm glad to hear that you love Shade7. Have you tried saving your scene and rendering it in Shade? Shade has a much better rendering engine, but when using radiosity, GI, or HDRI, it is REALLYYYYYY SLOW, but the result is awesome. Look at my thread below, ~#30 or so, about new clothes for Laura. I have included a short pictorial tutorial on how to make a shirt base and tanktop. -The Starkdog

I haven't tried rendering this beastie in shade 7 yet..... I think I need to reinstall p5 asap!! I am VERY pleased with the quality of the Shade Renderer..... though it is slow I think it is worth the wait. I used to use Carrara to render stuff I set up in p5, and it was very good! Much better than Firefly............ I think I like Shade Better tho :) I just have to get used to this cross thingy that manipluates the camera

Come back with a handle like "GeniusLevelIQ" or "TheSmartestManAlive". See what sort of reaction you get from one of those. BTW -- I haven't checked to see if either of those screenID's are already taken.
semidieu posted Wed, 30 March 2005 at 3:25 PM
You should perhaps try this (didn't read the previous thread, so don't know if you already did it...) Decrease Max Bucket Size. I made render with a Max Bucket Size of 2 with Poser5 ! Decrease Max Textures Size to 256. I read in another thread (an "old" one) that Poser (it was for Poser5) always use a "2^x" (don't remember the english name, sorry) in Max texture size... Example: 32 - 64 - 128 - 256 - 512 - 1024 - 2048 - etc... So, if you put 800 for the Max Texture Size, Poser will automatically take the next one, ie 1024. Hope it helps... And i'm also curious to know if it works in Poser5.

From another forum: You may want to look at you card settings. Another person had a similar card set for gaming and that gave big problems. May not help in your case but wouldn't hurt to look.
I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

*I just got so many nasty private messages I wanted to set the record straight :)* Sorry to hear so... there's no reason for it at all. *I am entitled to my opinion after all :)* As far as I'm concerned you are, but many people around here think differently. I and others have been told to keep our opinion to us many many times. Some people do believe their opinion is the only one valid. As for your rendering problem, all I can do is confirm. Poser 6 is just having a hard time rendering multiple figures. Just check out the link. Is that anything fancy? No, but still it took over 3hrs to render. The good thing is at least it did render, other multiple figure scenes I've created didn't want to render at all, no matter what settings I've tried. Just to mention it once more, CL has confirmed rendering problems in P6 and I'm hoping they'll trace it down soon and fix it, perhaps that will solve our problems too!Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Not from here. Throw it out for all to see.....that's what I say.
But don't count on agreement/acceptance. Or delight.
Opinions are dangerous things -- like explosives. And they should be handled carefully.
Sometimes, a bottle of nitro can blow up in the hand of the one carrying it.
Some people do believe their opinion is the only one valid.
Only when the opinion of the other is invalid.

Hey stupidest_login_ever, I don't have Poser 6, but I've been reading the boards here, and I recall seeing several people post that there is a known memory usage problem with Poser 6 right now that will be addressed in an upcoming service pak. I'd hazard a guess that you may be experiencing your difficulties as a result of this. Maybe the thing to do is to just do smaller, less ambitious images for now with Poser 6 and see how things go after the service pak is installed. I wouldn't give up on it entirely. Start simple and build up to the most complex image you can get away with and work within those constraints for now. Think of it as an opportunity to play with all the new features Poser 6 has in preparation for creating your masterpieces later on, or as a chance for you to experiment with a "minimalist" phase in your art. Incidentally, things like that are the reason I have not ordered Poser 6 yet, and probably won't for about 6 months or so. Getting Shade 7 LE for "free" isn't worth the possible/likely frustration of being an early adopter. Don't let the meatheads get you down, this is a very valuable forum despite them. Unzipped

Without reading anything above... you're not running poser6 on a disk without a page file are you? meaning: Normally your windows page file and your programs are on C: if you have the program installed on D: and your page file is on C: then Poser, (at least P4 & P5) used to complain about memory errors, when in fact it was a page file issue. create a small page file on D: of about 10-50Mb and your problem shoudl dissapear. He says hopefully :) later jb

I do have a partition on my drive to seperate the recovery data from everything else, but P6 is installed on my main drive and I have allowed windows to handle my PF settings. I have reported the problem to CL Steve at the addy specified in his later thread and I am hoping they will get back to me with something I have overlooked.. If and when they do I will report it in a clean post :) I have Poser 5 all re-installed now and I want to go try rebuilding and rendering this scene there:) Thanks for all the help and advice!
