I just installed my "upgrade" for poser 6. I was expecting that it would install over 5 so I would not have to install all my old files again. Now that I have both of them sitting on my PC I don't want to dubble my poser 5 runtime (14 Gigs) or risk the problem of moving it over. Any suggestion or clues.

you can direct Poser 6 to your P5 runtimes. Open the list of runtimes , where it says "Poser 6" and "Downloads", and use the "add runtime "feature (the little plus sign). Then direct it to your P5 runtime and you will be able to access it from P6.

Keep in mind that IF you set new EXTRA Runtimes as part of the PREFERRED STATE (as opposed to FACTORY STATE), Poser 5/6 will look for those Runtimes every time you start it up. And depending on the size of your EXTRA Runtimes, that can take a long long time. With P5/6 its also possible to maintain EXTRA Runtimes as small as one character. Its a speedier process if you want to just deal with one character/prop/scene without waiting for 700 other items to load. But it will add the missing Library folders if necessary. Just a consideration.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Poser 6 will recurse through the runtimes you have linked in order to get the file information. So you can say put all your character files in Poser 6's runtime and still be able to load them even though you didn't move over geometries or textures. As long as the runtimes are linked. ^_^

OK another dumb question. I see the runtime but I can't access it! When I double click on the new runtime from P5 with the red dot, it just opens other folder and I can't seem to get to anything. Now what am I doing wrong???? SIGH

You have to scroll up. Usually happens when there are less items in the Runtime you switched to than were in the previous one.

Believe me, my P5 runtime is large. When I try clicking on the individual folders, Poses, Figures and etc. it just displays a folder, no content. Should my new runtime display Runtime 5? It just says Runtime. Guess I'll have to delete it and start again....

You may just have pointed to the wrong directory.
If (say) your P5 is in C:Poser5, then that is the directory you should select NOT the Runtime directory.

Oh thank you for clarifying that, I was pointing to the actual runtime....

Ok, I have been scouring the web for issues with installing Poser 6.0 and have found the most common one is the installation of your prior RUNTIME into Poser 6.0. Adding Runtime Start Poser 6. Go to the Figures Runtime for Poser 6 on the right. Click on FIGURES. If your FIGURES is not showing you two folders called "Poser 6" and "Download" then you are somewhere else in this RUNTIME folder, go to the top of the list and click on the GO UP (arrow) folder... This will move you up a level or two... depending where you are. If you've done this then you will see the "Poser 6" (followed by a RED DOT) and the "Downloads" folders. Now you're at the top level. On the top, right, you will see a down-arrow which you can click on to select a pulldown-menu. At the bottom of this pulldown-menu you should see the entry "Add Runtime". If you see "Add Category" then you are not at the very TOP of the Figures Folder. Select "Add Runtime" and you will be presented with a dialog to select the exact directory where your POSER 5 (or POSER 4) Runtime is located. Make sure you select the entire path to the RUNTIME, not the usual path to just Poser 5 (or Poser 4)... C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 5Runtime Once you select this and click the "OK" button, it will take a short while (depending on how HUGE your runtime is) to import the links to this into the Poser 6 database. Once its done, you will see the newly added Poser 5 Runtime folder under the "Downloads" folder. Once all entries are added to Poser 6, you can highlight your Poser 5 Runtime and at the bottom of the screen is a checkmark to "Make Current" your selection. You will know if your selection of making this Poser 5 Runtime current worked when you see the RED DOT move from Poser 6 to Poser 5. This now will show you the content of your Poser 5 Runtime now in all Categories. I hope this will help you out alot in getting your old content back up and useable in your new installation of Poser 6. I loaded up an older .PZ3 file from Poser 5 into Poser 6 and what used to not work in Poser 5's renderer worked on first try with Poser 6... I was VERY HAPPY I didn't have to reinstall my ENTIRE Runtime back into Poser 6.
