Now that we have Infinitie maybe some of the experts with the function editor can make up a material package for us that are not so good with the functions. Like a shoreline rolling wave effect for water and maybe some terrian materials for procedual terrians. Just an idea. I am sure I would either buy such a package or would really apprecitate such a package if for free. We could then take the materials and view with function editor and maybe get an idea how some are made. :) What do others think of this idea and would any the experts be up to making a few for us that are having problems with functions. :o)

Good idea. Some years ago we had monthly contest in this forum with themes like "fire". Or "atmospheres". And put the results into freestuff. I proposed that sometimes already but with no results. Lets think about that again!

Just wait till Monsoon gets his hands on Infinite. I'll make you guys some real goodies...... Even though I don't have it yet I've been making distribution maps and base textures for the ecosystem...when it gets here, I'm divin' in with full scuba gear!!

I agree, great ideas. I also don't 'get' the node thing. Don't know yet what I can contribute, but sure I'll come up with something.

I really like Wabe's idea about the contest. I loved the atmosphere package that came out of one of those.

I'd just like to know how to use the funtion editor myself, the manual doesn't explain it very well. I'm sure it's just a paradigm thing, but I need to find that paradigm from somewhere :) Example: using the function editor, how can I get my trees to grow on ALL parts of the surface of a sphere? At the moment they stop growing at the equator, and my dabblings with the function editor haven't changed that.

I tried the tree over a sphere thing too. It turns out that the vertical position value is harcoded at -180 to 180 so you can never have trees or object completely encircled. I spent a day trying to do this before I learned thi unfortunate fact. I think the EON guys will have this in a future release.

Yes...help with nodes....please!

it feels like a very basic shortcoming that realy shoudnt be hard at all to rectify so e.on will hopefully fix it in the next patch or two.

So doesn't -180 to 180 degrees represent a full circle? BTW, nice job there Ms O :D I'd like the one material to do this so that I can generate a material with patterns built in to give big cartoon landmasses, cities & forests etc. One material duplicated or copied would give me an edge to the continuitly of look, so that I would have a sudden "equator" where things suddenly changed.

Speaking of materials, can anyone recommend a good source of landscape materials - seemless - for free or purchase? Grasses, rocks, that sort of thing. I'd sure appreciate it.

Attached is lots good link for textures. Check out monsoons earthenware material package at 3d commune. I bought it and use it all the time. It has some great materials in it that can be edited in material editor to get lots different effects. :o)ïÏøçö
