I tried today to download a purchase I just made and to redownload another I had made before, and one of them failed... but now these 2 products appear in my purchase history without the download button! Is that normal?

You are allowed 3 download attempts only... then you get the blank button. Just contact Rendo and they will rest it for you.

If they will reset it for you, why do they bother limiting it to begin with? Seems like limiting the downloads and then having the customer request a reset and the staff resetting it, is a make work project for everyone all around. I've had the same problem where I know I've downloaded the file but due to browser issues or some mystical twilight zone phenomena, the file is no where to be found. I've got a few files sitting in my purchase history that don't have download buttons next to them now because of that.

I guess the reason is... that if the downloads are available permanently... they could be open to abuse... multiple downloads by multiple people. 3 downloads or attempted downloads seems a reasonable limit for/by the original purchaser.. and seems to be standard practise at most stores.

The store has to pay for bandwidth used in supplying these files. By limiting downloads, they encourage you to back up your own files on your own media. If there were unlimited downloads, people might be tempted to consider the store as their backup (free web-based storage) and do repeated downloads unnecessarily. - Drew

That makes sense :)
