Anybody know if there is a way to clear the renders from the render/preview screen?

Even after closing a file and reopening there seems to be a time line list for the renders that where completed (lower left corner)

I have to beleive that this is sucking precious OS resources if you have a multitude of renders on a file, please correct me if I am wrong
