I don't get it, you all seem to have used Poser for years and years and years but yet you fill this forum with P6 questions that you should already know the answers too. You can't be much of a guru ot a bigshot then if you need to keep asking a zillion questions about a program that you've used in the past and can't be all that much different from P5? I'm sure I'll make more enemies with this post don't care and frankly this P6 crowd is not as friendly as it used to be. I miss the poser forum. This was a friendly forum when I first joined Now I'm an outsidder again. So what? You got P6? BFD. let the flames begin because I'll doubt I'll respond.

I don't understand threads like this. Poser 6 is new, so there will be a lot of discussion about it; that's expected. Mark the forum as "all read", and you will only be exposed to threads that have new posts in them. If it has Poser 6, just scroll on by. Several times I've come here and have seen 3 new threads, all about poser 6...I just mark the forum "read" and move on. I don't see a need to make a big issue out of nothing.

Cause in one day I've gone from P4 to P6 and there's a HUGE difference between the two programs. In alot of respects I have to completley relearn Poser. I'll ask questions as long as I'm in need of answers...Someone here is always kind enough to help me out. No one here knows me from Adam and I'm no "bigshot" but I've never been treated like an outsider by anyone here. Matter of fact, people seem to go out of their way to help me learn...that's what we do here.

Who's claiming to be a guru or a big shot? And hey, even gurus and bigshots have to ask questions about new "features." (In some case, bugs!) You've been grumping about P6 ever since you got here. I'm sorry you can't afford to upgrade, but that's no reason for you to pee all over everyone else's parade. I can't afford 3dsMax, but I don't tell people who own it that they shouldn't be posting here. P6 is new. Naturally people are excited about it. The U.S. buyers of the boxed version will be getting it today, so expect a lot more P6 threads. If it really hurts you so much to see them, maybe you should take a break for awhile. Come back in a month, and things will probably have settled down some.
Angel1 posted Mon, 04 April 2005 at 7:21 AM
Being on the the ones still waiting for the boxed version (no hair and no nails left) I can only speculate (experience going from P4 to P5) that it's because while the two programs are similar - they may appear very different and rather than muck it up - why not ask someone who may know? I, for one, am following the threads closely to head off any problems I may encounter. If it's any consolation, I'm sure this will pass just as soon as we are all settled in with the new version. Hang in there :-) Angel1

I was definately NOT in the book, but you know, Jackson says his move is 'based on' and okay, that's one way of thinking about it. So, I am not objecting because it was not in the book, but because it is a fundamental breach of the Sam/Frodo relationship. There is one point where the Ring Sickness overtakes Frodo so much he thinks FOR AN INSTANT that Sam is an orc trying to take the ring, but that gets shaken off right away. The love and devotion between Sam and Frodo is deeply deeply fundamental to the story, and Jackson was a fool to vilolate it by thinking such a lost soul as gollum could come between. I have used the browser on occasion, but if you want to find out about real opera I suggest La Boheme by Giacomo Puccini to start! Ravishing. ::::: Opera :::::

Well I for one have just jumped from P4 to P6 and I only got P4 at the beginning of February so I'm inexperienced plus I know nothing about the features of P5. I don't know how to use the face room (I tried it once, and what I ended up with would have scared anyone if they had met it in a dark alleyway lol), the cloth room is confusing to me, but hopefully I'll be able to get the hang of it. As for the material room, jeez I opened it up once, thought "what the heck is this all about?" and closed it again lol. More tutorials required to study there methinks.
It is because of these P6 threads that are helping me learn more about this program, and it is good to see what more experienced Poser users think of it, it is making me more aware that any problems I have had with P6 is not through my fault, well some of them anyway, but I do know why I have had problems.
I still have a lot to learn about these new features such as the lighting and the Firefly render settings and these threads are helping me understand how they work, how you use them etc.

Operaguy, Frodo spent all that time sucummbing to the evil of the ring, combined with a kinship feeling with only other being around that had succumbed to the rings power (Bilbo doesn't count, he's not there) He wants to believe Gollum can be saved, because it means he can be saved. it does happen in the book (read last summer, for the 4thtime I think from a 1972 box set with Tolkien art on the covers) And Frodo does send Sam away because of Gollums word. But jackson should have had the raising of the shire included. At least I think so.

If he'd bothered to think, he would have realized that Sam wasn't as close as he thought (remember that Sam was "the fat hobbit" and not as quick on his toes). Sam wasn't that far behind when Shelob pops out of a crack between them. Gollum's "slinker and stinker" characters in the movie was pretty accurate. Sam was very good. Eowyn was right. Boromir was an improvement. Almost everyone else suffered character assassination to various degrees. I still love the movies, but they will not replace the books in my heart. You will probably be shocked, but I am not a huge fan of the Shore music for Lord of the Rings. The problem is that this is musical material strectched out into parts of, what, 9 hours? Now, it may be just as you pointed out...he has not crystalized it into a symphonic work yet/ever. If he did find the courage (that was the right word) he would write a Suite or Symphony sourced from the soundtrack material, but one that would be centered in its own power. That might be another story. I've been reading since 1966 myself. I remember the anticipation in 1977 for the publication of the Silmarillion. I obtained my copy on the publication date, read it in one weekend, and was so shocked and marred and disturbed and awed that I could not discuss the book nor read it again for two years. ::::: Opera :::::

Ahhh my beloved Cincinnati Reds won their first game!!! No matter how good or bad they do I still love 'em...they are my boys of summer! Still a little p.o.'d that they took Joe Nuxhall out of the broadcasting booth tho...I mean C'MON!! The guy is a Cincinnati Reds legend in his own right! He's been on 700 WLW since I was a kid calling the games..... Oh yeah and Bonni, I managed not to muck up the keyboard with the iced tea thru the nose trick.... ;)

Dwarves mate for life and live 400 years, so there must be some chemistry there. ::::: Opera :::::

Yes, but not clumsy drunken oafs with no sense of honor. I could have taken his POV, but the stale jokes about dwarf-tossing and "game over" with the added drinking contest and his cheating did NOT endear me to him at all. I'd rather have had a noble dwarf, proud of his heritage and the craftsmanship of his kinfolk... even if greedy or suspicious or narrow-minded. (As for his comments about never trusting an elf, I'll accept that, given the way Legolas' father imprisoned his father.) Carolly

Yes Carolly, most people watching the movie have no idea how deep this issue is, not even back to the Thorin jailing, although I am certain you do. It goes back six thousand years, to the moment when the dwarves finished the reworking of the Nauglamir (a necklace) by placing the Silmaril radiant in its center, and then refused to return it to the Elven King Thingol. The Dwarves killed Thingol. There was a huge war between dwarves and elves. Even deeper: Elves are the firstborn of Iluvatar (God) but dwarves were made by Aule, one of Iluvatar's important 'angels.' There's a jealousy in it. But also triumph, because Iluvatar blessed the act, unlike the un-blessed attempt of Melkor (fallen angel) to create a race -- the orcs. IMO, Tolkien intended the Gimli/Legolas relationship to be a chapter in the healing of the entire history of conflict between elves and dwarves. To sully this tragic but noble history with Jackson's smarmy 20th century silliness...it's like making a sitcom out of Macbeth. ::::: Opera :::::

I believe there is an iron curtain version of Macbeth, and even a Simpson's take on the tragedy: "is this a doughnut I see before me?" The friction with the dwarves started even before that problem with the necklace... why didn't Thingol listen to his wife? She was a Maia, after all, wise as well as powerful. :sigh: In many ways the elves and dwarves are similar: both being jewelers and weaponmakers, both enhancing their works with magic... and both races being secretive and proud. It is interesting that the major work utilizing the skills of both people is the massive door between their realms. I think there was also a lot of simple gut-level competition. It would be easier for elves to get along with men to whom they could feel superior than with someone who was created first (thus usurping their title) and who excelled at the same activities. Very good points. Somwhow I detect you as a deep friend of Melian. She must have known a sorrow few could comprehend. One wonders, here deep in the Fourth Age, if the Elves begin to rethink their appraisal of Men. On the one hand, confirming their superiority, they must see us as having dwindled in stature. Yet, does their once-elevating immortality on Arda now ssem a jail sentence? They may have come to envy the Gift of Men, that on death they escape the circles of the Earth. ::::: Opera :::::

Considering that the thread began with personal attacks, by your logic it should have been locked right away. You expected flames. If you don't like to get burned, keep away from the fire. 8-)
